Interesting observation on bow hunting

I was in Wally World shopping this afternoon.  I passed by the hunting section.  Right on the inside corner they had arrows for sale.  All we're carbon fiber.  They ranged from $5.97 to $9.97 a piece.  I had a flash back to 1976 when I first got into bow hunting.  I had a Fred Bear 76er Take Down Recurve bow.  Dang I loved that bow and would have wished I kept it.  I saw a red riser white limb one on Ebay!  Tempting!

Any how, back then I would walk the three miles to the nearest K-Mart.  I could get wooden cedar arrows for $0.79 a piece or Easton aluminum arrows for $0.99 a piece as I recall.  Not a bad price back then!  Bow hunting was much simpler then!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I had that same recurve...then traded up to a first generation Jennings compound....heavy, complicated but it worked

Same here, my first compound bow was the Jennings T-Star.  Looking back it was a huge bow in today's standard but it shot well!

I had a similar experience but in my case I was impressed we can now buy for under $10 arrows that are much better/lighter/stronger that what I was buying 20 years ago for over $20 a stick.  Damn…

When I get to AZ the first thing I’m doing is unpacking my Matthews which I haven’t seen in 10 years, taking it in to be tuned,  buying a new dozen arrows and setting up my target in the backyard to shake the rust off.

I'm also going to get a decent set of cedar arrows and learn to instinct shoot the Osage Orange bow I bought a few years back and make a proper primitive quiver etc…

    It’s a °IIIII° thing 😎

My first bow was a bear recurve. It delaminated and is long gone. I still have my first cross bow, a Pro-line mk 5. It's heavy with metal limbs, but it works. I keep thinking about a new bow but....

All I could ever do was instinct shooting with mine.  For what ever reason, I have never been able to wink my left eye.  My left winker is nonfunctional.  However, I'm left eye dominate.  When I was a we little one shooting my .22lr I tried to shoot right handed and lean my head all the way over the receiver to see the sights.  Hence, the reason I shoot guns left handed.

I shoot a bow right handed.  Trying to put sights on a bow never worked because of my left eye dominations.  However, I got pretty good at instinct shooting.

Wow that’s interesting!  Did you ever try peep sights?

I tried them as a teenager, never took hold.  My dad would get frustrated with me a little guy leaning over the gun.  When I tried to wink my left eye, I'd just make funny faces and contort my face but the winker wouldn't go down.  Then he turned me around so I could left-handed and it worked like a charm first time out.  I did shoot my compound bow with an eye patch so I could use sights.  I'd just slide it down when I saw a deer coming in.  worked fine!

Cool!  Cross dominance is not something I’ve had to deal with personally and not much of a factor is modern defensive pistol shooting so it’s always interesting to me to find out how folks deal with it in real life.  Thanks!

Seems almost everyone here stepped up to the Jennings T.  Same story with me. I had a Hoyt recurve when the compounds arrived had to have one. Much faster but I was far more accurate with the Hoyt.
Bought Easton fletched shafts by the dozen shot them picked out those that didn’t group.

I have a Bearcat recurve takedown from that period. It is rigged for fishing.

    Left= write, shoot firearms, eat

Right= throw, shoot bows, touch myself

I can shoot a pistol right handed. Not as accurately as left.

I started on my oldest brothers recurves. 50# Custom Assenheimer by 12-13. My right side is stronger and since I shoot instinctively with both eyes open looking at target, eye dominance didn't matter.

If I tried a compound with sights, I would have switched to left.

I just sold my last bow. I was down to a 35# (womans bow = .270)
