Jam Nut or Crush Washer

I departed from my normal YHM Phantom flash suppressor on my current build and instead went with a compensator...it came with a  jam nut and a crush washer...having never used the former before...what's the preference?

I have a compensator that I shimmed on - but it keeps getting loosened up...

If it’s not suppressor bound, freakin crush washer it…

if you shim, rockset or blue loctite. There’s no reason for that if you’re not attaching something to the muzzle device.

I use shims on all my personal/work brakes/can attachments and do not use rockset or loctite. Hell, I do the opposite and use anti-seize!
I’ve never had one come loose. When installed properly (vice and wrench) they won’t come off.
A brake is an expendable accessory. They will be eaten away over time and need to be replaced. I’ve had too many issues removing someone’s brake that was installed with rockset and to a lesser degree, loctite. Pain to get them off and then clean the threads to install another.

Zorba just needs to take the skirt off and use tools/muscles. 😁

Put me down for crush washers.  One-time use, yes.  Care required not to turn too far, yes. But a lot less fiddly and frustrating than peel washers.  Like Zee on his washers, I apply anti-seize.  A bit of "HULK SMASH!" for the first 90% and a bit of dainty for the last 10.  Haven't had one misbehave.

Jamb nuts on a brake?  That's a new one for me.

I hear you, bud. I use anti seize on barrel nuts. Suppressor mounts, I shim and rockset. I get they’re a consumable. But most of us mortals don’t use them to the extent you do.

For a basic build, looks aren’t a big concern and I’m not attaching anything to them, crush washer… consider the end user. No need to over complicate. It’s probably not going to see thousands of rounds…. Brake, crush washer, done…
