I miss the days when we had a 110# bulldog to ''woof'' through the screen door at anyone who ignored the "No Solicitors" sign......

I used to own an imposing muscle bound 90lb Boxer (quite large for the breed) and he was an absolute maniac when anyone knocked on the door.  He would literally jump to the glass and start bitting at it.  My UPS packages started getting delivered down by the road by my mailbox and I finally caught up with the delivery guy and he said he was terrified of my dog and that so was everyone in the neighborhood.  I laughed and told him to make sure he spread the word.

I know that many criminal incidents are committed by a folks only one person removed from someone that has access or information about you or your home.  Your cleaning lady's crackhead son, your UPS guy's loser brother, your plumber's "helper" with the extensive criminal background, are all threats to you, many times unintentionally as the folks that have service access to you make innocent comments of what you own, your house, security and contents, your habits, what they believe was delivered to you etc.

Connected to that, we went through a period of time where we had a bunch of burglaries in the neighborhood and they hit the houses on either side of me, but mine never got hit.  I guess the word did get around...

I would have found your Shepherd more intimidating than a boxer
    He was a handsome lad

He was, thank you.  He was my baby and there will never be another one like him.

But my boxer was one generation before and he was a great protector in his own right though nowhere near as well trained as the GS.

We’ve always had dogs in the house.  We’ve never been burglarized.

I was in my garage one day and this guy hollers in and I asked what he wanted and he started with what do you do for security I pulled out a 9mm from under my desk and he said what if thats not there so I pulled out another one and he said what if youre not sitting here so I stood up and pulled a 357 from my pocket and a 9mm in my holster his next question was what I do at night so I called down to my house and told my daughter to put Duce on the runner now Duce is my 140# Pitbull with no sense of humor the guy finally got the message and  went to my neighbor and asked the same security question and my neighbor said he has a gun in every room and if he's not home his crazy neighbor (Me) will shoot them

One of the neighbors down the nearby road had a shop vacuum fall out of his truck as he rounded the corner at my house about 6 mos ago.

I ran out and recovered it, and next time I saw his truck pass by I paid attention to which house (trailer - there are a couple of them down this 1/4 mile road) he pulled in to.... then walked down to his house, and knocked on the door.

When he answered the door, I told him I had a shop vac that fell out of a truck like his and if he could name the brand, I'd return it to him.  He immediately named the brand AND model... and then asked me "you the cop that lives on the corner?"  (I'm actually *not* LEO... Detention only, although I'm dual certified, but saw no point in discussing the difference at the time) so I just nodded yes.

Prior to this incident I'd never even noticed this guy, and I don't have a marked car or anything, so if you didn't see me walking in or out of the house going to/from work in uniform, you'd never know....  obviously word gets around though.
