Warnings to those in MS or driving through or around MS: Fake cop killing people

mythaeusmythaeus Posts: 831 Senior Member
If you live in MS or the surrounding states, I'm sure you have heard by now that there may be a police impersonator pulling drivers over and shooting/killing them. Details: http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/15/justice/mississippi-highway-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

"Authorities are asking citizens to be careful if they are pulled over and feel uneasy. They advise drivers to call 911 and verify that a legitimate officer is pulling them over or drive to a well-lit, crowded place before stopping, actions permitted under Mississippi state law."

Be safe out there!

I got pulled over once on a two lane highway a couple weeks after a drunk killed a whole family in a fiery crash (several bars on said road).....

I drove another 1/2 mile to a spot with a small gravel parking area off of the road. The Trooper was all kinds of pissed, ''Didn't you see the lights?" I tried to explain it to him. Might as well told it to my steering wheel...

Personation of police officers for the purpose of ANY wrong doing pisses me off so much, but this in enraging. I hope they are found very soon. These reigns of terror usually do not last very long due to the high-profile nature of the crimes. I hope that is the case here, too.

The charge of impersonating a LEO is quite serious, and being a serial killer as well, they are headed to the execution dock most likely.......

I'm really glad they caught the guy. I really want to know though why they thought there was a poser in the first place. Can't help but wonder if that opened a whole can of ideas for some sickos.

Would it still be bad to say I admire his choice in firearms?

I hope he is really the guy and it is over and we do not get a copycat.

I've been pulled over twice. Both times I hit the hazard lights and called 911 to explain to dispatch I would be pulling over in a safe well lit area and kept him/her on speaker phone the whole time. Didn't have a problem from the officer or the 911 operator either time.

LEO members, is that acceptable to you guys if you went to pull someone over and they did that? Not tryin to stir, I'm actually wondering

Cop impersonators have been at it for at least 75 years. The St. Valentine's Day massacre was pulled off by a bunch of thugs dressed as police, and several serial rapists from the 1950's on used red spotlights to pull women over in secluded areas. When in doubt, drive on to a safe area, even if it gets somebody whizzed off!

A right minded LEO has no reason to get bent if a person pulls over in a safer spot, if the person in question pulls over in a secluded spot and the LEO is afraid, he or she can call for backup and be careful, this is where, in small towns anyway, a LEO can sometimes fall back on a friend for help, a non LEO.

    Welcome MerlyJ

Several years ago we had what became known as the "Blue light rapist" on I 40.
There was another case of a fake cop knocking on hotel room doors and raping women.
I can see how this would royally piss off real cops.
