I was shutting down the pumps the other night, I had just tallied the days fuel sales, etc... had cleaned My Mossberg 500, loaded the magazine and was ready to finish closing up, looked at the far end of the island and I see the silhouette of a car that should not be parked there and a much smaller dark shape near it, that whole area is dark and unlit after closing, I see movement, and I raise the Mossberg that till then I was holding it near My leg, the car roars to life, and screams out burning rubber, and a motorcycle roars out too, small dark Honda no plates, the motorcycle roared off in another direction, don't even know what type or model, didn't see enough of the vehicles to get any real description because they tore down the wrong way, to cross the roads divider farther on down, No way to bother calling 911 with such a piss poor vehicle description and no descriptions of occupants or drivers etc....

It gets a bit scary around here at night closing the place alone....... Even during the day, I had two Hispanic looking fellows park at the far end of the gas price sign, they had bandannas covering their faces......

Sounds to me like you need some help at closing time, its just a matter of time before something bad happens when you are
distracted or not in a position to get quick access to Mr Mossberg!! It might be a good idea to file a police report so you have
a paper trail in case you have to take care of business.BE CAREFUL, good luck!!

That's my exact first thoughts!!! Maybe more security cameras around the premises for deterrent in addition to recording descriptions of possible suspects too.

That or maybe keep the lights on. Maybe a timer giving you 15 minutes of light? Darkness brings out the hoodlums.

Geez........good job keeping a cool head. Ditto on keeping the lights on. If I lived closer, I'd stop by around closing time; I'm wide awake until the wee hours.

    Remote claymores....

Glad you are OK. I have often considered non explosive electronic flash bangs for my front door as a deterant, even as a Halloween prank. Just a thought.

BigD, I've thought the same thing but for real not prank. I've also thought of those beam alarms. Place a couple in areas of approach and any body break the beam or trip the wire and you know it.

Be careful Doc. Thankfully you're armed.

Prevention is the best defense, start by not closing the place on your own and go from there!

Have any other nearby businesses been held-up? Keep your head on a swivel and your doors locked when doing your closing. Lets be careful out there.

Often wondered if it's worth it for many businesses to even stay open late at night. From folks I know who work the late night convienience store shifts it hardly pays enough to be worthwhile let alone the increased possibility that late evenings is when the scumballs are out and active.

That does give Me some ideas, a few well placed car horns & strobe lights might do wonders to help convince the bad guys to leave....

We have a local gas station that plays loud Christian rock over its speakers. Never seen any loiterers.

Not a comment on the music at all, just the situation.

The claymores sound good to go, but NON-explosive flash-bangs? What's up with that??
The presence of the Mossberg probably headed off a passle of troubles. Big dog would help too. Meet my two buddies, Mr Mossberg and my Chinese pal Mr Fang! Now YOUR name gonna be Mr Chow!

It's a gas station, they should have an air compressor. I'd get me a train horn. :D

For the complete effect, add a subwoofer and a spotlight. Make them think a train is coming through.

FWIW, it's a gas station. Explosive flash bangs (chemical ) create significant heat , enough to ignite gas fumes. An electronic flash bang as a deterant could give you enough time to blind an attacker, and reach for your mossberg before a perp could get off a shot. It also might be enough of a shock that a perp might just turn around and run away. Anything that could give you an advantage in a potential firefight is a good idea, in my book.

Strobe lights, photography strobes are cheap & safe and effective, combined with high decibel sound should be effective.
