U.S. soldier arrested with bomb-making materials

Guns and smokeless powder? Was he really going to make bombs or are the police just using hand loading equipment as an excuse to trump up more charges on a kid who made a dumb mistake going AWOL.

What scares me is I guess they could use the same excuse to go after any of us that hand load.

In his particular case they could be correct but I know what you're getting at. The guy is a muslim conscientious objector and he went awol and was found in a hotel room with loading supplies. Maybe he was just getting ready fo an IPSC match?(doubt it) Over the years I've read countless articles where the media spun things that were found in a home that was searched under unrelated circumstances. Everything from finding three perfectly legal hunting firearms and claiming that a small arsenal was found to calling loading supplies bomb making components.

Not defending the child porn charge in any way but....

How is that relevant to the charges of bomb-making?

Evidently he also had 18 lbs. of smokeless powder and a pressure cooker.

He had also asked about making bombs when he was buying the smokeless powder.

Now when you start talking smokeless gunpowder and some here load 3 rifle powders and 2 pistol powders. You open their powder cabinet and there are 8 of the 4 or 8 pound cans. What would that say to them?

Yep, the guy sounds like a real doofus. He bought 6 1-pound canisters of smokeless powder, and then asked the counter guy how to use it! Nothing suspicious about that, is there?

Thank God I don't own a pressure cooker!

Now, a canning kettle full of Bullseye and ball bearings, and a detonator of some sort- - - - -that would be an attention-getter! Good thing none of us would try a stunt like that!

To bad Darwin and Murphy didn't jump up and bite this guy without hurting anyone or anything ... but then they couldn't ask him questions that might need to be answered.
