    They arent messing around. We should have the same type of sentence here for serious crimes.

    The other guy got 3000 lashes and 20 years. Think I would have been better off with the first sentence....

    Not sure but I bet this punishment will be more of a deterrent than anything we do for such ridiculous actions that cause lives to be lost. I know it would never happen but public execution for capital murder or such , public flogging 3000 lashes or such for "lesser" crimes and so on might put the fear of the law in some of the criminals we have in the US ...

    But the people getting killed seem to be mostly spectators. IMHO, they are just as guilty....
