The grandkids and I rebuilt the front suspension today on a car one of them will be driving to college this fall. Struggling with brand new front springs in 100+ degree heat is no fun at all! The kids did most of the grunt work- - -I just supervised and showed them a few old geezer mechanic tricks!

The people in VA and MD are really toughing it out. Storm ripped through there last night and took out power to a huge area around DC. Some won't have power for around a week in this heat.

Yep we had a horrendous wind followed by some severe thunderstorms about a half hour before I clocked out at work. The temp literally fell from 100 to 70 in less than 2 minutes. Came home to no power from 5pm to 3am.
It is quite nice in MN, low 90's in the day and high 60's and low 70's overnight, pretty low humidity at the moment and I just tried out my new Thermacell toy for the skeeters that just finally have been a problem and am happy to report it works pretty good, need to set out a couple of them and we will see how them mosquitoes like that.

We got hit by the same storm a bit north of you. I've never seen so many trees and barns laying on the ground in my life. Not just a swath but miles wide. They're telling us not to expect power for 4-7 days.

Don't know what the heat index is but it's over 90deg here in the house. High humidity too. Power went out Friday night at 1100PM and came back last night at 9PM. The genny was OK for everything but the AC. The Boss was having real problems with the heat. And when she has problems, I problems!
Only 92 F in Miami, but our A/C broke this morning.

On Thursday it was 104 set a new record, same for Friday set 103 record, Saturday was 102, but several of my thermometers read 107-109 degrees that were in the shade. Today and the next few days forecast for the high 90's, way too hot.
The other problem is no rain. 0.43 " of rain in columbus June 1-26
3.54" of rain normally June 1-26 1.17" of rain in May
5.27" of rain normally in May 13.01" of rain ytd
22.66" ytd normally
Early this morning we had all of 0.4" of rain for the 1st of June. Drought is causing a loss of shade trees along with farm crops dying.
This is how I got to spend my afternoon in the heat yesterday.....
Thankfully nobody hurt, got called in to help the shift working yesterday, while responding to the scene, the temp guage in my Explorer said it was 106 degrees out. We must have used up 50 cases of bottled water yesterday!
They had some house fires just up the road, probably over loading the electric in one and the other
was the BBQ too close to the house. Same crew got to fight both fires.
I expect it will return to normal summer patterns soon around here, but, that means high 80s - mid 90s
until late in Oct.
Yep , 95' sunny , hot and humid here. Ain't even going for a ride today. Staying in the A/C of the house. I do have to run a few errands , but I'm taking the truck now that it's A/C is nice and cold.
Even hot for Houston, about 8-10 degrees above normal. Temp was 100+ for several days running. Then yesterday (Sat 6/30) was had some steady rain and cooler temps. A pal and I sat at the Alabama Icehouse, drank a couple brews, watch our cars get a free wash.
Still, we're used to high temps in summer and next week the hot stuff will likely return.
East coast is having it bad due to power failures and the heat.
FPL relies on power from neighboring states to power the grid. If this keeps up it won't be long before they have a power emergency in Florida.

I had a spare tire in the back of my truck that was almost brand new. It damn near exploded just laying there with the tread separating and peeling off in several spots. I let the air out just to keep it from injuring the kids. That was a heavy duty load range E tire! Of course, it had the reccomended 80 psi in it cold.......
I hope the local yahoos in the community lay off the fireworks this week. It's so dry if they start a fire with their fireworks it will burn this end of the county down in ten minutes flat.

3 degrees of frost in outside this morning, ran out of gas in the heater last night at 9pm and the temp in the house dropped to 8 deg celsius.
