Batman Premier in Colorado, 14 dead many more injured

KSU FirefighterKSU Firefighter Posts: 3,249 Senior Member
Early reports are saying that as many as 50 were wounded. The subject was arrested wearing a bulletproof vest and riot gear. May have used tear gas in his attack. He was caught with two firearms and ammunition, told police that he had explosives at his apartment.

Why can't these morons just suck start their pistols and save everyone a lot of heartache and grief?!

It's a horrible shame there wasn't an armed citizen there to stop this as soon as it started happening. :-(

I know I don't go into a Regal theater because they don't allow concealed carry. Don't know if this was a "gun free zone" or not. But it is sad ether way.

Well, they must not have had that no-gun zone sign posted by the emergeny exit door he kicked in or else he would not have brought the gun inside...................

My prayers go out to the victims and their families. Piss on the killer, should take him out and hang him with piano wire today.

Updated news (live news running here in Colorado Springs) - they got the shooter, a 24 year old "American" who used some kind of gas or smoke bomb inside the theater as he started shooting. Reports say he had two pistols and an "assault weapon" and may have had a helper inside the theater. Had a gas mask and body armor. Some of the people who were inside said they thought it was part of the movie premiere. Saying now 12 dead, more than 50 wounded, many critical. Some wounded in adjoining theaters from bullets penetrating the walls. FBI saying the shooter is not connected to any known terrorist groups.

Regal theatres have a no-gun policy with signs on the ticket window and lobby.

I guess that's why he used the fire exit. No sign on those doors!

And despite what happened , a crowded and panicing theatre is not the best place to be throwing shots , even in self defense. I doubt there would be a clear line of fire. Flight would be the better option than standing and waiting for a clear shot. Besides , pull a pistol in that mass panic and another armed patron might take YOU out.

For a while, I legally carried inside the local Regal as their sign wasn't par with SC code. In SC, you have to have the proper sign or it isn't valid. Simply putting the words "No Weapons" or "No Concealed Weapons" doesn't fly. Guess someone tipped them off. And they haven't seen any of my money since then...

My 16 year-old grandaughter (whom I am raising along with her 13 year-old sister) was at a premiere of the same movie but at a theater complex here in Colorado Springs. She and a bunch of her girlfriends from school love going to these midnight openings, and one or another of us parents always take the group to the complex and hang around in the area until they are inside and then go back and pick them up afterwards. This is going to change all that, for certain.

CNN is now saying 12 dead , 38 injured.

And of course , the focus of discussion is now on the guns , what they were (AK-47 like weapon?) , how he got them , why people are allowed to own such weapons of mass destruction , yada , yada , yada.

I don't like those odds ether. But I would rather die after dumping 8 220grain .45acp rounds into said body armor than to die unarmed and defenseless. Obviously dyeing isn't part of my SD plan, but lets face it. If you are in close quarters with a man with a rifle and body armor and he already has the element of surprise, odds aren't very high...

This wasn't a Regal, it was a Cinemark. They do however share Regal's stance on guns. Another case of a gun free zone with lots and lots of easy targets...

I don't know about SC or CO, but in FL they can only ask you to leave if you come in with a gun. They can only arrest you if you refuse to leave and are therefore trespassing.

Regarding the SD portion of this incident, I've read he used tear gas. Unless you've had military or LE exposure to that stuff, I'd imagine that it would be hard for most concealed carry holders to deal with the effects of tear gas. Then you have all the people clamoring for the exit and on the floor. Dark theater, so it's hard t make out your target. You might not even know that the shooter is wearing body armor, so how can you really tell if your hits are ineffective or misses? Plus, don't know if he's got on a helmet.

Yeah, that situation would have a high degree of suckage...
    Meh.

In SC, with the proper sign posted, it is a misdemeanor. Without the proper sign posted, it is perfectly legal. But then again, if it is concealed, there isn't an issue unless you get "made."

Yep. And somehow I doubt they'll press charges for a concealed handgun carried by a legally licensed carrier who's using in self-defense. Just my thought...
    Meh.

There goes Sam's theory of BG's never wear vests...... Since this is in the PD section, would anyone carry AP rounds if they were available??

Sure it will...right between the eyes or at least somewhere close. You could always carry a CZ-52. Lot's of hot ammo for that.

But beyond that.....some sick clown.....just once can't we catch a break and have a gun owner NEXT to the guy when he opens fire?! Just proves there are more sheep than sheepdogs. Sad. My prayers go to the families of those injured or killed.

I like the gun's capabilities and from those I've seen demo it, it looks like a great shooter. But it's one of the ugliest modern semi-autos on the market..........

I'm keeping a good thought for the victims of this. Hope the injured all pull through.

First off...condolences to those victims of this mess...

News conference update...Apparently the shooter was armed with an AR-15, a Remington 870 and two .40 cal Glocks (one of which was found in his car so they are not sure whether he had it inside the theater or not )

Once again...a mad man brings firearms to the forefront in the worst possible way....

I carry a Colt Lt. Wt. Ofc. model w/3" bbl. loaded with Federal Hydra-Shok 230 gr. HP having a muzzle energy of 414 ft. lbs. w/6 rd. mag. w/1 rd. in chamber. I also have 6, 7, and 8 rd. mags available if I wish to carry. I doubt that a shooter that has not been in the Military and experienced someone shooting at them, would be able to stand on a stage and keep shooting if someone started shooting back and hit him in any area. It is one thing to shoot at unarmed people, but when they might be shooting back changes the scenario, IMO.

The North Hollywood shooters had vests on, and they didn't look to concerned with the police shooting at them.

If someone is mentally defective enough to shoot a room full of people, I can see them thinking a vest will make them bulletproof.

Yeah, making a headshot in the dark thru tear gas is gonna be hard to practice for.

I wouldn't either, but there have been several shootings now with the BG wearing vests.

Not like you can say, '' that won't happen''. It has many times.
