Dear Mr Romney. Oooo!! Lots of spats over here.

"It's hard to know just how well it will turn out,"Mr Romney said, referring to the Olympic Games that kick off in London on Friday.:nono:

The mayor of London;
"I hear there's a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we're ready," Mr Johnson told a crowd of tens of thousands of people who had gathered in Hyde Park, in central London.
"He wants to know whether we're ready. Are we ready? Are we ready? Yes, we are!":applause:

That prompted a response from the prime minister, who praised London's readiness and said it would be easier to organise an Olympic Games "in the middle of nowhere" - a remark widely seen as a reference to Mr Romney's stewardship of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games.:roll2:

Poor diplomacy, for sure, but still an improvement over Obama - Romney only insulted the mayor of London, whereas Obama has insulted most of Great Britain at every opportunity. I would rate the returning of the Churchill bust as just short of an act of war.

So, how is that security thing coming along?

Not so much the mayor as our ability to run the thing securely.

Yes, they do tend to act like a load of twonks, do they not.

It is better than they planned.
More well trained police and army instead of poorly trained private security, it’s a win win.

I don't know, I give Romney credit here. He could have just praised London instead and rubbed your tummy saying everything is alright, but he told the truth, that they security is lacking and you have a looming strike in the immigration services. I like the fact that he didn't kiss anyones posterior and called it like he saw it. Kind of like Maggie thatcher used to do before you guys "went wobblly". Makes me feel better about the election.

Since there are about 4 people in the free world that are alive and have organized a Olympics I would think it should be taken as constructive criticism.

It would be like someone who has hunted succesfully before suggesting that you use a adequate bullet for deer.
It's boring, and your lack of creativity knows no bounds.

Good luck with that. I'm sure the problems to be overcome in a highly populated area are much more complicated than Mitt's were, in Utah.

' that they security is lacking ' - How did he know this? Did he read it somewhere or did he just sense it.

'looming strike in the immigration services' - Was not looming that much, did not happen, he read that in the paper.

'He could have just praised London instead and rubbed your tummy saying everything is alright'- Really? So the back- pedalling later was a tickle on the tum? Nice of him.

Anyway, if you get a chance, see the opening ceremony. It is quite good.

    PS
    Could you perchance enlarge on;
‘Kind of like Maggie thatcher used to do before you guys "went wobblly".’

I am fine with the Mrs Thatcher bit, just the ‘wobblly’, if you would not mind.

I was reading about the security issues myself, so I thought it was a legitimate criticism. I sincerely hope it is resolved and the whole thing is extremely successful. I know you guys are proud of hosting the Olympics, but man, chill out a bit on Romney! It is not like he groped the queen or something.

Not wanting to speak for the person who made the original post, but just a personal observation- - - - -The entire free world, not just the UK or USA, etc. needs to grow a backbone where the defense of freedom is concerned. We have become so concerned with "offending" various radical elements that we have become afraid to take a stand for what's right. Being the biggest, baddest dog in the neighborhood is no good if we're afraid to bite someone who desperately needs it on occasion. We've become a bunch of whimpering wimps and we routinely let tinhorn dictators and selfish, radical immigrants kick sand in our faces at will!

Not really a sore point. I just don't see where it is something to get that bent out of shape over. I thought our UK brothers and sisters had thicker skin than that. It almost seems like they are hyper critical of Romney to make him look bad compared to Obama. I have no doubts that there is a liberal media over there ready to make a mountain out of any of Romney's molehills. Between that, and all of the excitement that is surrounding the Olympics, I just feel that the whole thing is being blown out of proportion.

I don't doubt that he thought he was saying the truth, at the time, and may still think that. But a man who wants to be President should probably not start out by embarrassing his country's most dependable ally, for no good reason. The Brits, being very experienced in international relations, will find some subtle way to pay him back, just to keep the relationship on the right track - nothing serious, but some reminder that they consider themselves an equal partner in the relationship. Politicians are never going to allow another politician to start viewing them as a doormat that can be treated with indifference.

If he recognized something from his own experience that he believed they were unaware of, certainly he should mention it to the proper person, but an ally should be treated with more respect and their triumphs should be celebrated rather than diminished.

It's probably a very small matter in the great scheme of things, but on the heels of the many exhibits of disrespect by Obama, the British people certainly have to wonder if the trend is going to continue.

but on the heels of the many exhibits of disrespect by Obama,

I think we put it down to his grandfather being a ‘freedom fighter’ in Kenya.
We called them ‘Mau Mau rebels’ and they did not win, so there are still ‘rebels’.
Turns out this may not be the whole truth.:yikes::tooth:

So your guess is as good as mine.
It may be he just does not like us Brits, I know it is hard to beleive but in the great big world some people do not.

Maggie once said to Pres. Geo. HW Bush "Now George, lets not get wobbly." Can't remember what the occasion was but it was good advice and he took it.

Security issues were known, strike is/was a point of concern.

We (USA/Britain) need to not only carry a big stick and speak softly, but start whacking the Dog-Do-Do outta some more of these third world countries. Time to take the kid gloves off and remind some of them who is boss again. I mean those who can't behave and sponsor terrorism.

Oh, my warped sense of humor had me laughing out loud when one of the Olympic contenders from Greece tweeted a comment about the West Nile Virus. The PC Police zapped her fer the tweet. I still think it is funny. :rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao:

    http://slumz.boxden.com/f16/olympic-athlete-expelled-racist-tweet-pic-1789397/

"Greece's triple-jump champion was expelled from the Olympics after posting a tasteless tweet about Africans and the West Nile virus.

Hellenic Olympic Committee officials announced Voula Papachristou wouldn't travel to London after she tweeted a joke about African immigrants.

On Monday, the track athlete posted a tweet reading, "with so many Africans in Greece, at least the West Nile mosquitos will be eating food from their own home." The comments created an uproar on Greek social media. Papachristou didn't address the criticism on Twitter for two days.

Greece later announced it would place Papchristou "outside the Olympic team for statements contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement."

bisley, I think that you've got it nailed down just about right!

Now, as for "Maggie" Thatcher....:worthy: :worthy: :worthy:! Back when Argentina made a "mistake" over the Faulkland Island, I got a temporary recall up to Suitland Maryland and had a ringside seat of the "affair"! God but I wish SHE could be President of the USA!

I feel fine about your heritage,ghostsniper1, mine is southern Irish and Welsh.
Being born in the melting pot of a large English city port I have no problems with anybody’s heritage.
By the way, since the Plantation of Ulster, you can feel proud to call yourself Scot-Irish with a bit of Huguenot thrown in unless you’re ancestors left before 1600’s.
Also Northern Ireland is in the UK, so you are part Brit as well as being a colonial.

http://www.jewishworldreview.com -- "REMEMBER George, this is no time to go wobbly." So said Margaret Thatcher to the first President Bush just days after Saddam Hussein attacked Kuwait. Bush did not go wobbly. He invaded.
