I guess I'm going to do some doggin early next week
Because of a surprising invite, I get to do some pd shooting in a new town.
Primary weapon will be my 6.5x47L RIFLE!
This should get the Eliminator a good run through lasering small fairly flat areas/dog mounds.
130 Berger at just over 2800 fps should prove enjoyable.
I will shoot mine off of a bi-pod and rear field bag, while the guy I will be shooting with will use his NEO Coaxial Rest with two different fast twist 6BR's (Rifles).
Plan to run out to 600-800 yards myself, and he brought ammo for me to shoot his rigs too.
Don't tell anyone I might be shooting multiple rifles in a period of several hours:yikes:

In case you didn't know....I don't like pdogs. They're evil, nasty little creatures.

I doubt if I am even going to go for any 1K+ dogs next week, just body count and trying a new system out.
And of course spotting! That is as much fun or even more fun than shooting.

If the distance is decent on rock-chucks, you can get more than one shot on some of them.
Depending on how much these pd's have been shot at will have a lot to do with how many shot opportunities we get.

A spotter starts working before the first shot. If the spotter is good, there is no need for a second shot. A spotters job is target detection, ranging, wind call, and correction if needed.
The shooter just gets a stable platform and pulls the trigger.
Mike and I found a huge town on the place we hunt goats. It had so many that I actually ran over one with my truck just driving through the town. Have you ever heard the sound made when a 16 inch tire rolls over a prairie dog the size of a football?
That was in early October about 5-6 years ago. We came back the following January and the dogs were almost completely gone. I think we managed to shoot 3. I later learned that the plague hit the little darlings. I guess that's about the only thing one can say about the plague. It can sure wipe out a colony of prairie dogs in short order.
Anyway, Ernie, good luck with you venture.
Gun control laws make about as much sense as taking ex-lax to cure a cough.
