Took the kids dove hunting this evening.

My daughter has been several times, but this was my son's first trip. Went with my local hunting buddy to a nice little ranch. A 'front' had moved in a couple days ago and pushed the majority of the birds out. But, we had a good time shooting and playing with those that showed up.

Started off with my CZ Ringneck 20ga, but soon realized it wasn't going to cut it for the high fliers we were having. So, I broke out the Huglu 12ga and got down to business.

For a non-fancy over under, I do pretty darn good with it. Better than my Remington 870. If fact, when the CZ and the Huglu came along, the 870 got shunned to HD duty.

Had a great time with the kids. First time we've been out hunting since the spring. My boy had a great time. This is his kind of hunting! Doesn't have to be quiet. He can move around and play with bugs (I showed them that termites were edible) and they both LOVE running after the downed birds. They make great bird dogs! As usual, my little girl, was by my side. My little huntress.

Love my kids.

I envy you, man. I gave up on doves down here after opening day. Terribly slow. I love seeing that your daughter is still into it and your son is now making his run in the field. He's going to be a roit in a high box stand from the sound of things. Same as my boy (at 1 year ild in few days, there's not a lick of "sit still" in him.)

You actually have me pretty excited for the duck opener in a few weeks. The public area I normally hate to hunt, because it gets overcrowded with Las Vegas yahoos, is actually perfect to take a kid because it has easy access blinds. If I get drawn for it, I'll be taking my daughter this year for her first time.

Sure would have been nice to see those yesterday. But thats ok. I suppose ours is a one sided relationship.

They were with a camera and not my phone. Kinda hard to text from an SLR camera. Maybe some day.
