.300 H&H

Just picked up a 700 Classic in .300 H&H and now looking for some load suggestions. Was thinking 180-200gr and RL22 or IMR or H4350. What do you think?

I think a 300 H&H is an awesome great classic cartridge in a fine rifle the Remington 700 Classic. Congrats man, really cool.

There are a host of powders that will drive a 180gr to 2900fps and some of my favorites are IMR4350, H4831, IMR4831 and H4350 and even IMR4320 will do it, but so will RL-17. I know you will have fun with that fine rifle and cartridge.

So true. I already have a .300Wby but just could not resist this classic. One of the most efficient 30cal magnums.

Always been a fan of H&H. I think you'd be on the right track with a 200gr Partition

I think you're on the right track. However, as beartracker points out, there are many powders that will do the job. I also believe the 300 H&H was made for just those very bullets, 180-200 Grain. It should drive the 180 to a comfortable 2900 FPS and the 200, likewise to around 2800. That's a lot of down range energy out to 500 yards. You should be able to slay many elk with such a smoke pole. Have fun.

4350 seems to be one of the preferred propellants for the .375H&H, and it's a dandy fuel for the .30-06. Seeing as your round is neatly between the two, I'd say 4350 is a logical place to start.

There's a couple other points too. I have read by some of the old writers, can't remember who now, that the 300 H&H is about the most efficient of the big cased 30s. Also the case design enhances smooth loading and extraction. That long taper has a lot of advantages over most of the sharp shoulder modern smokers of today. It's just a great old classic round that is plenty most potent for most anything walking.
