Got my deer

Got this nice little 3 point this morning. Shot was uphill at just over 300yrds. Almost missed him hidden in some brush around the rocks. First shot was head on and did the job but he stayed up so I put one more in him finishing off his lungs and clipping the liver. The gun was my grandpas sportirized Springfield in 30-06 bullet was 180grn Nosler accubond. Hour and a half horse ride to him a two and a half hour walk out.

Just before I shot this one my buddy shot a nice white tail. All in all a great day.

It's a mule deer, we have a few whitetail and they are getting to be more and more but the majority are all Mulies.

Done deer hunting we can get one a year. In a few weeks it's elk season thought!

Tennessee had a 1-buck-a-year rule, with only 3 days of hunting season, shotgun slugs only, in 1955. Now it's 3 does a day over a 3-month season, plus 3 bucks. We're sort of knee-deep in deer! The restocking program that was begun in the late 1940's with live-trapped deer from Wisconsin has really been successful.

Good shooting. It's good that you guys have the whitetails up there. I guess there's a few along the Umpqua too. I wonder if we'll ever get any down here in the Rogue valley?

It's so dry down here, I haven't heard many stories of success. I figured with dry woods, clear skies and bright moon, I'd wait till next week and hope for rain.

We are in north east Oregon. On our side of the state all you really find is Mulies, with a few whitetail in specific areas. On the west side it's all black tails. The west side of Oregon and Washington are absolutely completely different than the east side of the states. While the west is wet and dense vegetation the east is all high desert with little rainfall. I shot my deer in the rock cliffs and sagebrush. We were right at the start of the tree line. But even if you get into the trees its pine forest so not real thick.
