Illinois residents with handguns in Indiana?
Question: I am an Illinois resident with a current FOID card. I do not have a ccw permit in any state. There is an outdoor range I'd like to visit in Indiana just over the Illinois border but I've heard that Illinois residents may not bring/transport/fire a handgun in Indiana unless they are an Indiana resident with proper licenses or have a ccw permit from a state that is recognized by Indiana. Apparently this only applies to handguns, rifles and shotguns are ok. I've also heard that this used to be true but the law has since been changed. If I'm an Illinois resident with a valid FOID card can I bring my handgun to a range in Indiana and use it?
Can anyone offer any insight into this or have first hand knowledge of the laws regarding this? Or at least know who I can call to get an official answer?
Thanks!

We do have a member or two from Indiana, maybe they will chime in as well.

At any rate I wasn't able to call the States Attorney office due to the holiday weekend. So I called the Indiana State Police instead to see what info they could provide. All they could tell me was the standard federal transportation rules, unloaded, in a case, and in the trunk but he said only from your home to a range or gun store/gunsmith. I'll try the states atty office later on in the week for some more definitive information. I want to make sure I do this right.
If anyone has any more info please comment!
At this time, if you have the proper ownership papers from ill. it allows you to use any FREE
shooting range supervised by the state of indiana
§ 926A. Interstate Transportation of Firearms
Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.
I believe they are quoting the statute Jayhawker referenced.
