The kid tagged his first solo buck
It is opening day and I'm stuck at work. My son has his first class at 11AM so he decides to go hunting at first light.
This is his first deer kill without me present. 151 yards with his Remington 710 in 270 Win.

When our governing officials dismiss due process as mere semantics, when they exercise powers they don’t have and ignore duties they actually bear, and when we let them get away with it, we have ceased to be our own rulers.

Yep! Nice meat buck....
Congrats to both of you.

No blacktails up here. We have mulies and whiteys.

I was waiting for the 270 jokes...
He has texted me periodically to complain about being alone for the 3/4 mile deer-drag.

Just 3/4 of a mile? And just a young deer?
Text back and tell him he has it easy.

Who said he shot it? May have been a cliff 151 yards high where he dropped the rifle on the deer..... :jester:
You left out the part about how much heavier deer were back then.

When I tell it, it is always an elk!

Are you nuts?
You tell people that you killed an elk with a .270??????

I alway keep one in the back of my truck, I toss all of my "stuff" in it to keep it from rolling around and my stuff in one place.
He's just first his first major lesson of solo deer hunting: be careful what you wish for because you jsut might get it!
Great job on his part to get one in the bag.
My first solo hunt that involved a deer drag wasn't all that much fun at that particular moment, but I can honestly say it is one of my fondest memories. Something about the 'aloneness' of it still makes it special for me.
Oh, and let your son know he was lucky to have a girly .270 accomplish that. I'd never take that risk.
That's why I shoot a very manly .277.
