I have shot two different rifles in the past 7 days: A crummy Ruger 300 Winny with a 100 pound trigger, and a real nice McMillan single shot 50 Cal
Once your kids start going hunting with you, it will change your life. It is absolutely awesome! Difficult at times, but more than worth the reward both of you will get out of it.
Since my daughter turned 4, I have only hunted about 3 times without her. When I did, I missed her. She is my hunting partner and my boy is getting there as well.
I worked up some awesome reduced loads for my .243 and the kids. 32gr of H4895 under 85gr Sierra BTHP Gamekings and my kids are dinging steel and targets at 200 yards and beyond. They work great and don't beat the kids up.
Might give something like that a try. There is no question that load will work on game under 250 yards or so. I've been impressed with the Sierra BTHP Gameking in this and other calibers.
I really can't wait to get my daughter out there. She is going to be gung ho, especially when it comes time to field dress. Like you daughter, she's not shy when it comes to gore.
Also, thanks for the starting point with the GameKing load. With the distances you typically find in Nebraksa (under 200 yards), that kind of load is perfect, 85 gr. is more than ample on whitetails, and I know the GameKing is very velocity range-friendly as far as expansion and terminal performance.
Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.
2375 with the 168 A-Max.
You were surely on the money.
You did have drops for 300 and 400 yards, but being .2 MOA off is really, really close:up:
If you will recall a certain argument on this forum awhile back between two individuals which will remain un-named (Beartracker). Who, posed that a chronograph was needed to collect drops.
Apparently not.
The other side of the argument was that known drops could be used to determine the needed MOA.
I'm not saying I got 8 minutes out of thin air. Yes, we knew 300/400. That was used to get 350. Without a chronograph.
It ain't rocket surgery. I ain't that smart.

Well, you got me curious so, I opened up Exbal and put in 4300 feet elevation, 2375 FPS with the 168 A-Max, 60 degrees, 30% humidity and a 1.9" sight height above bore, 100 yard zero.
Drop for 350 yards=7.75 MOA
Now I know why I shot .875 inches high on that lope!:jester::roll2:
What did you put your sight height above bore at?
Your effervescent personality, shooting and wind calling skill makes up for the genius part:tooth:
Okay, at 350 yards 1 MOA= 3.50" (Shooter's MOA)
.5 MOA = 1.75" at 350 yards
So, a .25 MOA at 350 yards would be....You get the point
Zee, I worked up a 130 grain .30 caliber gas checked hard cast plinker load for my grandkids, and they love it. My grandson shoots it from a 7.62 CETME 1916 Guardia Civil Mauser, his sister uses the same bullet in a 7.62X39 small ring Mauser I built up for her, and the other boy shoots it from a .30-30 Marlin 336. All of them are loaded to similar velocities, around 2K FPS. I quench the bullets into icewater, straight from the mold, using a 20:1 lead:tin alloy.

When I ranged the doe at 350, we didn't have dope for that. I told Ernie to come up 8 Minutes of angle and it worked.
Today, I actually chronographed that load out of the pistol. Imputed the data in a ballistics program.
You know what the program called for at 350 yards?
8.2 MOA
Who needs a chronograph? Thank you. Thank you very much. BAM!!!
