I'll start.

" Buying a handgun and considering yourself armed is like buying a guitar and considering yourself a musician".

He really had a knack for an insightful, pithy, well turned phrase didn't he?

He also had a surefire way to stop riots. Marksmen with scoped .22s identify the ringleaders and provocateurs, them place a bullet in their mid thigh. It takes the fight right out of them, scatters the crowd, and they are easy to ID in the hospital later on. You just need the will to do it, and nobody has that.

I misquoted Col Cooper, what he said was :

“Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.”

I think he also said in an article "doo00OODzzz!! Anything less than teh .45 auto is teh suckS0r3, w00T wooT! I am teh LiZaRD KiNg"

“One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that ‘violence begets violence.’ I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure—and in some cases I have—that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy.”

Some people may have had issues with the Colonel's writing style. His use of the editorial "we", his sometimes stilted grammar and wording, his often deeply structured sentences, all went to confuse the poorly educated. (Good grief, am I channeling him here?!?)

For me, it was rather refreshing to read his thoughts, challenging to follow his phrasing, and enjoyable to realize that hey, behind this prose is a guy I can wholeheartedly agree with!

I loved reading and musing over his defense of the Scout rifle idea, and his somewhat reserved opinion of the Steyr Scout. Like it or not, the man could shoot a rifle, and the Scout suited his needs just fine.

Gunrunner, you've really hit the nail on the head there!

Oh God. The article on Gunsite Ranch in the latest G&A so positive that it could have been written by Gunsite's public relations consultant. It's essentially a puff piece for Jeff Cooper...a man whose godlike qualities have been recited in glowing terms so often in this magazine that I can't bear it any more. To make matters worse, it goes on to talk at length about the many benefits of attending Gunsite even though Cooper is no longer on this plane of existence. Too promotional. Me no can stand.

I have been reading G&A since 1978. I am acutely aware of who Cooper was. But after all these years, I grow weary of reading yet again about his pronouncements on virtually everything under the sun. It's enough already, Mr. G&A Editor. Can't you find someone living to write about?

His first thread here was commentary on another writer for the magazine.

I'm not a fan of the Scout rifle concept, but respect the concept. I met Cooper about six or seven years ago. He was in a wheelchair and had a cane with a large silver ram's head. I was at a GALEFI (GA Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors) conference. He gave a good and modest presentation. Said he'd had no memory of "El Presidente" personal experience, although he wished he had.

As an aside, years before this I heard what was posited as a true report from Gunsight. After graduation and long hours of discussing everyday tactics, the graduates went to a steakhouse to eat. An Englishman was seated on Cooper's right. After going to the salad bar and getting their salad, the Englishman took a seat on Cooper's left. Cooper asked him, "What's the tactics on your sitting on my left? Is it so you can get to your weapon easier?" The Englishman said, "Oh, no. It's quite simple, really. If it all goes down while we're eating, I don't want your empties landing in my plate."

Correct. I thought it was more appropriate to express those thoughts here, rather than in letters to the editor.

Why? The editor is the one who controls the content, not the folks on this forum.

Unless you just want to complain, but if you're truly interested in content... maybe you should contact the one who controls the content. Just a suggestion.

It was rumored that when Jeff Cooper returned to his house after a hard day's work, he would exclaim, "Honey, I'm home!"

I used to say that, then Clean got her own saying; "Oh great, just what I need now". :deadhorse:

Actually.....reading your older posts....all you do is whine.
CPG, please feel free to call it whining if wish. But I'd encourage you to take a broader view. You, sir, are a "senior member" of this forum. As such, shouldn't you welcome debate? Is this not the place to express my humble point of view on articles published by Guns & Ammo? Isn't that what this "forum" is all about? Is this not "the clubhouse?" It reminds me of some kids in my 3rd grade class who built a clubhouse in the woods. They wouldn't let anyone else play in it. Every time we went over there, they'd say things such as "Kid, get outta here! This is our clubhouse! Don't ever come into our clubhouse again!"

Thus always to tyrants. Let freedom ring.

    My best to you,

    OOOOkaaaaaaaaaay. . .

You show up out of nowhere, essentially in the house that Jeff Cooper built, then dig up an ancient thread to vent your dissatisfaction with a recent article about Jeff Cooper.

Hey, it's your opinion, and that's fine, but you've logged onto this forum in classic troll style. The pattern that goes with this is the troll gets banned in short order. Lack of tact in "The Clubhouse" is fine. Lack of tact when nobody yet knows what your personal brand of tactlessness is rarely goes over well.

Point taken. As a gesture of goodwill, I offer this photo of my prized collection of military bolt-action rifles. Relics of a bygone age.

Big whoop! Now sit back and read awhile, and maybe learn a few manners before you open your pie hole again and shove both feet in it!

Teach/Jerry, I caution you. Be careful, sir. Such rudeness could get you banned from the Guns & Ammo Clubhouse Forum, like someone threatened to ban me earlier in this thread. What will you do then? You've posted over 8,000 times to this forum. If you are cast out, a gaping black hole will open in your life. You'd have to sign up on the Pee Wee's Playhouse forum and vent your bile there.
