They went out about an hour before sundown. His friend shot this:

When our governing officials dismiss due process as mere semantics, when they exercise powers they don’t have and ignore duties they actually bear, and when we let them get away with it, we have ceased to be our own rulers.

Estimated weight? He looks like a big boy.

All I have is he was shot with a hand-me-down Montgomery Wards 30-30 lever gun at about 50 yards.

Not bad for a couple of 18 year olds...

Amen bro, amen. But lemme ask you a question. That rack is no doubt whitetail, but the forehead not only has that slate grey in it. But also the bushy forehead of a Muley. Any chance, based on where you guys hunt and live it's a hybrid?

It's possible. There are whiteys and mulies all over the mountain we hunt. A few years ago, my trail camera had pic of a buck that had a whitetail antler on one side and a mule deer antler on the other. I didn't think much of it at the time, I just figured it was a genetic defect.

Very nice deer! The only downside is that now the young men may become jaded and think that nice bucks like that will always come easy. The son of one of the guys on our lease shot a 230# eight point with a pretty wide spread on their old lease when he was 14 and now he complains that the deer on our lease aren't big enough.

Looking good! My 21-year-old niece got her first deer, a very nice 6-pointer, after about 15 minutes on the stand on her very first day of hunting, with my brother sharing a 2-person stand with her. When it was field-dressed and hung up in the barn, she said "OK, let's go get another one!" We had to explain to her that deer hunting isn't quite like shopping at the mall!

I love that that buck was shot with a .30-30. Man what a nice deer.

    You guys have it scored?

The skull/antlers are at the "carrion beetle guy" getting prepped for a European mount. He said he would green score it for the boys when they pick it up.

Yep, her cousin got that one a couple of hours earlier, just at daybreak. The both scored their first deer within a short time of each other!

Good kids! These deer were taken about 3 or 4 years ago, IIRC!

Rich, those pics were taken about mid-December about 3 or 4 years ago. It's not quite that cold here yet this year!

Doesn't surprise me in the least. More big deer have been killed with ratty old pie plate accuracy 30-30s than by all the Weatherbys in the world combined. And I say that as the proud owner of a Lazer Mark Mark V 300 WBY Mag.

My old across the street neighbor, an old retired School Superintendant from South Texas name of Cecil Roundtree, had a whole wall full of monsters he killed while sitting on top of a telephone pole on a sendero in South Texas. He said the furtherest he shot was 75 yards.
