...plus cheese, butter, and garlic. And the shrimp are cooked in bacon grease! Just had some of this, home-made. I recommend it.

Tried Shrimp & Grits for the first time back in September in Gulf Shores AL. Think I had them 3 times in one week. Always sounded weird, but definitely, GOOD EATS!

The thing I like about this recipe is you cook the shrimp in the bacon grease. Then fry the bacon some more in the grease. Then add all of it to the grits.

Never had grits, not a Puertorrican staple, guess not one in NY, Miami or LA where I lived before.

Good as it sounds, I'm thinking this recipe would be even better with Polenta (Corn grits)...which have more "body" than grits (Hominy grits)...

Grits am groceries. Plenty of good places on the Gulf Coast to get shrimp and grits but the first I've had was at A1A Aleworks in St. Augustine. Great stuff. Headed to the sausage festival in Elberta, AL Saturday to get some grits ground while I wait!

This meat and three type place in the food court in the building next to mine had a Friday special most of the summer. Shrimp n grits, one side, a roll/cornbread and a drink for around $6.50 after tax. So I ate there every Friday.

OK...I did my own take on shrimp & grits last night... I used polenta instead of grits...the stuff seems to grab ahold of the cheese (sharp cheddar) and butter better than grits.

I sauteed onions, green pepper and garlic in the bacon grease before adding the shrimp...then gave it a light dusting of Old Bay Seasoning...

Result: This stuff is out of this world good...and filling...a half bowl did me in... It should also be noted that a steady diet of this stuff will kill you deader than a hammer...but what a way to go!
