Independence Day weekend plans?

What's on your calendar for the upcoming long weekend, gang?

Traveling to sponge off relatives or staying home to cook BBQ and lay back?

Myself, kicking back and taking it easy. Just finished a week's steady work on the new novel, emailed it to the publisher today, so I'm off the hook for the next few days. As Dan can attest, writin' is hard werk, er, work.

May head down to the range for some pistol shooting, but that's about it. Low profile here.

There's a big Houston fireworks show on the 4th and I have to walk upstairs to the 2nd floor balcony to watch it. Otherwise, with the dry conditions --- similar to most everywhere right now -- private fireworks aren't necessarily a good idea.

Oh, well, at midnight I'll step onto my patio and fire a full magazine of .45s into the air to celebrate (just kidding!)

Headed to the beach for the 4th and Dad's birthday (the 2nd) with most of the family. Little sis and her husband will be there too. Then we're staying a while, and going deep sea fishing the next saturday.

Do us all a favor and give nephew a big hug and salute for his service, okay? I just sent my regular donation to Wounded Warriors and it's not much, but it's all I can do to show my appreciation. God bless.

The part of the weekend I'm looking forward to is hitting the range at daylight on Saturday to sight in two brand new Weatherby Vanguard Carbines (7mm-08) that I bought for my sons-in-law. They are doing some serious work for me and won't accept wages, so I'm doing something for them that they can't/won't do for themselves.

Then, I'm off all next week for some home work days, and a brief family vacation with all the kids and grandkids at a water park.

Day 1, Get on the bike and ride thru the Cascades or the Olympics. Day 2, Go for a 6-8 hour hike in the Cascades (If the trail is clear of snow). The 4th of July, Grill some hamburgers & hotdogs and go to Lake Union Fireworks. It seems that Starbucks has had a good year selling lattes, since they picked up a big share of the tab. :applause: :iwo:

Rodeo, chuchwagon cookout, and arena dance on Saturday evening; Declaration of Independence reading and cook-out at my house for some friends on Sunday; parade, car show, food, and fireworks show at the USAF Academy on the actual 4th. Also - most important - going to church and giving thanks for being an American.

Not sure. The Boss hasn't said anything yet. Since my patio block forms came today I might redo the patio. If it rains I can always recaulk the tub. We shall see!

I work 12 hours a day Friday Saturday and Sunday but I am off Monday.
We will be going to a BBQ on Monday then to a minor league ball game and watch fire works after the game.

Weekend plans somewhat moderated this time because I seem to have split with my long-term (or maybe long-suffering) girlfriend. The steam sort of ran out of our relationship a few weeks back and it's probably quits. Oh well.

Each of us is different, thankfully, and I'm one of those "couple-oriented" social guys. Never been a loner, never been a part of the party group crowd. Even as a young guy I most enjoyed being out with a gal (romantic or just gal-pal either) and then movies, parties, etc. but always in the company of that one woman, even if at a big party.

Family is far-strung over the USA, nobody at home, so my "party" essence is right now on hold till I find myself in company of another lady to escort around. That's just how I am, enjoy most of all the companionship of a smart, funny, pretty gal.

What bearing it has on the holiday plans is that I'm staying home much of the time, watching racing on TV or writing. No biggie. I don't drink at home (diet rules) and so I'll probably hit 2 or 3 of my regular pubs over the weekend, nibble some BBQ, and just enjoy the companionship of my friends at the pubs. Time goes on and I'll hook up eventually with another lady. Right now however I'm a 5th wheel.

Doesn't mean I won't enjoy seeing Dave Alvin 7/15 or other bands, doesn't mean I won't get out and enjoy the long weekend, just means I'll miss the companionship of my lady. So it goes.

Today or Saturday I do plan to head to the range for some target practice.
