Whatcha got planned this weekend gun wise? Devoting my time to catching up on ammo

timctimc Posts: 6,684 Senior Member
Finally have a weekend with nothing special to do! I am going to spend moost of my goof off time loading ammo. I am way behind on .308 but I do have plenty of bullets and powder so I plan on putting out 500-600 rounds this weekend of .308 and maybe a few hundred 6.5 grendel. I just hate it when I get this far behind but I sure had fun unloading all that brass! I'm also going to order some .303 dies so I can start working up some loads for the new (to me) Enfield MK4 since I plan on doing a little hunting with the old girl this year.
Anyone have an suggestions for a hunting bullet and powder for .303 British?

I need to clean guns. Last weekend, I ran about 700 rounds through the AK and AK pistol, about 300 through the AR, 80 rounds through the AR-10, and about 300 through the CZ-75. the guns are filthy, and I just don't want to do do it.

I'm usually pretty religous about cleaning after a day at the range but there are times I get lazy and blow it off for a while. What I really hate is getting ready to go to the range and realizing I forgot to clean my guns last time out, then I have to clean them before I go and when I get back.

Went to the local gun show today. Talked to one vender who was a WWII vet, B-17 air crew. He had his original high altitude flight mits, said he used them after the war when he rode his Harley in cold weather. Also had an 1884 Springfield, 45/70, he thinks is unfired!! One of the last ones built in 1889.
Picked up an original bayonet for my Type 99 Arisaka, not much else tempted me. This show is pretty small and it's always the same venders with Taurus', Hi Points, and Jiemeniz's, not much quality, and what good stuff there is, is pricey $$$!!

I've been using 4064 and 3031 to load for the .303. Haven't loaded any hunting stuff, only 174 FMJ

I ordered some of the Hornady 174 grain round nose interlock bullets, Miswayusa had some good reviews posted on them. I'll see how they work and go from there, now I have to figure out powder. 4064 sounds pretty good, I am looking to stay more with what I have but if I need to add a new powder to my pile I will.

Went with a friend to the Ohio guncollectors meeting in Cleveland today. Left with nothing but a hot dog in my belly but there sure were a bunch of temptations up there. I thought about getting the wife a Civil War sabre for Christmas but I didn't think she'd see the humor in it.

I've been working on my stock and trigger inbetween other stuff. Think it's time for some trigger therapy and check out some new ammo for the 10mm tomorrow.....kinda thinking of taking the SKS for sight-in.

Well that's it I quit for the weekend. I prepped and loaded 250 rounds of hunting ammo for the DPMS AP4 .308, 200 rounds for my Remington 700 .308, 200 rounds for the FN PBR, .308, 125 rounds of .50 beowulf and prepped the empty 6.5 Grendel brass I have. I'll hit some more wednesday finishing up the Grendel ammo and starting on 30.06. Going to have to make a powder run pretty quick.

If you're talking THIS weekend, Nothing. I just pulled in from Galveston. Going to catch a nap and maybe go floundering. But next weekend it's another story. I'm going to go blast me a deer and maybe a hog, whatever's legal and sticks it's head out. Planning on using my .257 Roberts AI. It hasn't been blooded yet. I killed a hog with the .250 Savage back in May, so now to try out the .257. Then I want to kill something with my 30-30 with the Leverrevolution Bullets. I also want to try out my .223 and 22-250 with some of my bigger bullets. I also have two new to me Magnums, a 7 Rem. Savage 110, and a .300 WBY in a Mark V Lazer Mark. But I'm starting out slow.

Here I sit drinking some of my favorite brew, Columbian Coffee with a scoop of Texas Pecan Coffee in it, thinking about this coming weekend. I still need one more range trip to make sure everything is good to go. I'm going to take my oldest grandson out and let him get ready. I can't take him opening weekend, but after all the paying lease partners have gotten a crack at a deer, I'm taking him out with me and letting him shoot one of my alloted 4 deer. We went last year on a state hunt but it was his first time. he's got another years age now and I think he'll be able to connect. Anyway, this time of year is good. It's by far my favorite time. Fall, football, Hunting, Fishing, it's all good this time of the year.

Oh man Big Al, I love the B-17. I always wanted to go for a ride in one, but never did. Also, I saw Fifi, the last flying B-29 back about 20 years ago when the Confederate Air Show was still held at Harlingen. Paul Tibbitts flew it and when he landed and got out for autographs I met him and shook his hand. My dad was right behind me and I told Tibbitts that "This guy might not have survived to father me if you hadn't dropped that bomb!" I told him he was my hero for that. I think he almost cried. Tibbitts was never changed by his glory. He died the same great person he was when he was born. God Bless him.

OK sorry for the hijack. Just had to say that.
