I know we have some Aggies around here. SEC?

What are the rumors around your neck of the woods? It has been the BIG story around Alabama the past couple of days.

If it does, and A&M, and probably UT, join the SEC, it should be interesting. The key to winning in college football is what goes on in February as much as what happens in the fall. Recruiting is the name of the game. In last year's Cotton Bowl game, LSU's field goal kicker was from Texas. If A&M joins the SEC, it may be easier to recruit the best Texas high school football players, as well as some of the southern players who traditionally go to a SEC school. For decades, Oklahoma University has won with some of the best players Texas high school football had to offer. If OU is left out in the cold, those players may end up at A&M or UT.
If the two top college football programs in Texas abandon the Big 12 and join the SEC, it will definitely change the recruiting dynamic. All I can say is be careful what you wish for. You might just get it.

Paul, will it be A&M and tu, or just A&M?

Maybe I can answer my own question.
I just checked the espn web page, and it is reporting that only A&M is wanting to leave the Big 12. However, the current SEC schools will have to vote on it in order for this to happen, and there's a 30-40% chance that the vote will not favor A&M entering the SEC.
Also, Missouri (Big 12), Florida State (ACC) and Clemson (ACC) are also being offered an invitation. I don't know what the status of that is.
One of the reasons that A&M is wanting to move is the TV deal that is being offered by the Longhorn network. Apparently, A&M doesn't feel like they're getting their due, money wise. The amount of money mentioned is something like $300 million over several years.
If A&M joins the SEC, their biggest SEC rival will probably be LSU, as it's the closest school, and both schools recruit heavily from the Houston area.

And don't you SEC boys misinterpret what I said. Don't get too arrogant. I remember when Bear Bryant couldn't buy a win against Texas. I remember the 1965 Orange Bowl. That was before most of you were born, but just in case you missed it, Texas Beat Alabama with Joe Namath 21-17. And Alabama was like no. 1 in the nation before that. And Texas did it with a quarterback with estigmatism, Marvin Christinik. Of course Jim Hudson did go in as QB for a few plays and hit George Sauer Jr. for a long touchdown pass. Also Ernie Koy ran it right up the middle for another long touch down run. The only defeat the Longhorns suffered all year was a 15-13 defeat from Arkansas when crosseyed Christinik hit Hicks Green in the ankles going for a two point conversion to win. Oh well, Darryl Royal went for the win. He said a tie is like Kissing your Sister, LOL! Them was the good ol' days!
Texas and A&M can play with anybody. I'm just saying that it will be harder for the Aggies just like for Arkansas.
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.
Florida State Penitentiary and Clemson would be good fits in the SEC with good rivals they would have in multiple sports. The Aggies would have the same thing ... don't just think football even though it is the biggest revenue generator.
As to the ACC losing 2 team Swofford has been looking to raid the Big East of a couple of teams (plus a few others) already to take the conference jumpers.
I really think the Aggies are thinking also about getting away from the Longhorns and that stupid Longhorn Network deal that ESPN pulled ... I can't say I blame them for it either ...

Seems kinda silly to try and get out from underneath the shadow of UT just to get them beat senseless every week. But what the heck. It's all just bread and circuses.

So what's your excuse for the butt whipping we put on your boys last year?
It's posts like that that remind me why I have long ignored everything you post.
[edit]
I just re-read this string, and realize that I took Snake's comments out of context. I was thinking of a different game. Please accept my apologies.
I'll butt out now.

All part of the show. The SEC doesn't want that huge lawsuit for breaking up the Big 12 (er, 10). And they haven't even had their little board meeting at TAMU this afternoon to discuss this yet. Basically the SEC is saying, get your divorce first, then we'll talk.

I'm not sure whether the tradition of "Squeeze 'em, Ags" will catch on elsewhere, though.
PS: my 2nd favorite Aggie joke:
How many Aggies does it take to eat an armadillo?
Three. One to eat it and two to watch for cars.
It's a genuine Ag joke because of the context -- many other school jokes are just transferred from school to school, changing the name. But that one is Aggie-specific. And no, I'm not gonna tell my most favorite Aggie joke here.
"Squeeze 'em, Ags"? Sam, get it right. It's "Gig 'em, Ags"! Some people...
BTW, do you know what Aggies are called 5 years after they graduate?
Boss.
Now, on a serious note, I was watching ESPN recently and the talking heads were talking about tu (that's Aggie speak for University of Texas), Texas Tech, OU and Oklahoma State joining the PAC <pick a number>. If that were to happen, I don't know where that would leave A&M, Baylor, Missouri and the two Kansas schools. I even heard that TCU was thinking of joining the Big East. How weird is that?

Now that is funny indeed my friend.
Oh, I know about gig 'em. But "squeeze 'em" is also a saying, although it's not quite as popular. As I said, it never really caught on with other schools. Am I the only one who knows "squeeze 'em Ags"?
Don't however know "tu". Is that pronounced with the two letters "tee-you" or like the Italian pronoun, "too"?
I've worked for Ags and had them work for me. Okay people, really, but they tend to be very narrowly educated in their field, focused and sharp in the specific engineering field of their choice but not too much else. On the other hand, they're not usually as arrogant as their UT counterpoints.
The "squeeze 'em" thang must be something introduced since 1980, as I'm not familiar with it.
tu is pronounceed Tee-U.
I'm glad that you consider me an 'ok people'.

"Squeeze 'em" means that fans watching the football game in the stands squeeze their testicles in sympathy to the players on the field getting banged up. This is not a new "thang" but has likely, and much more pleasantly, been replaced by the tradtion of kissing your girlfriend next to you. So "squeeze 'em" has faded into obscurity, thankfully.
And Jerry, we both probably know the "other" Ag joke that I respectfully won't post. There are places I won't go, much as I make fun of the Aggies.
