Banned Christmas trees

I'm so tired of the Christmas holiday being a victim of people that want to make a point. It does not matter to me that a person doesn't believe in God. They will get theirs soon enough. December is a month of holidays and everyone has the rite to practice any holiday they wish. That is one of the things that this country was built on, FREEDOM! It seems the one Atheist can cause the removal of all Christmas trees, decarations, nativity displays ect. It is a Christmas tree! It is NOT a Holiday tree. A party can be a holiday party so all relegions (and Atheist) can attend. If a person doesn't want to see the decarations don't go where they are. Simple? Should be but it isn't for them because their rites have been violated by the display. PLEASE! Let's have a pre-holiday vent shall we? I feel better now, you will too. Later,

I don't think it's spam this time. It's good rant.

The minorities seem to be getting their way more and more every year. This is a country built on Christian values! I want a Christmas tree and a manger setting in front of churches and gvt buildings. If you don't like it, then get over it. The Boss and I won't do a big Christmas tree this year. We plan on having 2 small trees instead. One will be full of my Grinch tree ornements and the other will be full of her football ornaments. It's the way we want it so TS if the rest of the family doesn't like it.

Wambli Ska, Great follow up. I guess I should chill and not watch the news too much. I just get weary of the Christian bashing. Just smile and walk away and think of their one way Hades express ticket. Now I do feel better. Thanks, :worthy: Later,

It does seem rather odd that a pagan winter solstice holiday that was adopted by Christians is now under fire from atheists. Whatever. I will let them go and fight it out amongst themselves while I do my best to enjoy the season.

Ehhh, I just put our tree up, our public grade school is playing Christmas songs in the hallways (and on the outdoor speakers), youngest's Christmas concert is tonight; can't wait to see the decorations...PC hasn't reached our corner of the world...yet.

FB, you're welcome to enjoy a Christmas tree display at your local church. We have one where I attend, in the parish hall, and there's this nice party upcoming, where we bring gifts to the poor to put under the tree, have some tacos and burritos laid out, and sing carols. Lots of churches do this.

However, our Constitution does not allow establishment of a state religion, and so Christmas trees in public places like the city hall are simply not allowed.

Non-Christians always knock the Christmas holiday. Hey, even many Christians are upset by the extensive commercialism of that holiday. It wears me out. But regardless, Christian displays are not allowed in government locations.

If people want to get worried about the "war on Christmas" they should be mad at all the folks that allow for the commercialization of the holiday.

Funny thing about those Christmas trees. There's a great big one set up on the White House lawn each year, and several throughout the interior of the White House. Wonder why those displays are never attacked under the 'separation of church and state' by the ACLU and other assorted fruits 'n' nuts?

Does the constitution actually say "Separation of Church and State?"

Fact; the tradition of the winter holiday tree started with the Druids , it's a PAGAN symbol! (not those Pagan's)

Fact; Christmas has been moved around the calander by the Roman Catholic Church several times. It ended up at the end of December because that's when the Jews celebrate Hanukkah and the Muslims celebrate Ramadan. It was done out of SPITE!

Orthodox Christians still do it up Jan 6.

Have a pleasant non-denominational winter holiday.

    Here's Wiki's explaination. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state_in_the_United_States

Naturally , it's all eventually gonna be subject to the interpetation by the Supreme Court.

And the way the SC is shaping up , , , , !!! :banned:

Most of the argument has to do with local gov't. Specifically they shouldn't spend public funds to promote one religious holiday over another. Small-town politics can get really silly!

Well Sam, not so fast there partner...what you're saying ain't quite true....every Federal facility I worked in decorated for Christmas....we even had an official policy regarding trees and decorations in the facility. The last place I worked always had a 20 foot live Christmas tree in the dining room ,..erected and decorated by Govt. workers on Govt. time....and they still do. One depot I worked at actually closed down for a week over Christmas....in addition to decorating the boundary fence.

Haven't read the Wiki article, but I know it's from Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists.

Here's my thing: I don't want city workers putting up Christmas decorations, New Year's decorations, or really any decorations other than 4th of July. I don't want my taxes going towards paying someone to put up a bunch of ribbons and whatnot. I'd rather they go to... maintenance and other stuff I pay for.

I'm sure they'll claim it has commercial/income benefit. People will tend to come and shop where there's festive lights and decorations. It's all about the money!

We really, Really, REally, REALLY need a sarcasm font. :cuss: Nope. The Constitution does not say anything about separation of church and state.

1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Ghostsniper1, with all due respect and truly meaning no harm there are several places online where you can read the Constitution in full, and I believe the NRA still passes out pocket versions for free, and they are worth having. The Constitution isn't all that long a document, and is a document well worth reading repeatedly and becoming very familiar with. Very little lawyerese language in it, and what there is can be Googled to find the meaning. Can't wait for you to get to that "Congress shall pass no ex post facto law" bit. I've set a few people's hair on fire with that little bit.

Well here's my same old line. They have an agenda! They want to see Christmas and anyother Christian things go away. It's the communist way!!! And most Americans are too naive to see this. They believe that it's just a bunch of atheist. But the truth be known, many atheist don't care either, as long as we leave them alone. I really believe it goes much deeper than Atheists.

Snake , let me throw two observations of mine.

The phrase "under God" was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance June 14, 1954, by a Joint Resolution of Congress (amending §7 of the Flag Code enacted in 1942).

The new Pope said after his election(?) , "if you're not a Roman Catholic , you're not a true Christian".

And I'm not a true aethist , but a hardcore agnostic. My life certainly is not dreary because of my religious beliefs or lack of.

I think ALL religions are money grubbing BS.
