Unexpected new carbine

Buddy of mine needed cash, so I bought his M1 Carbine. It's an early 1960s National Ordnance build, mostly GI parts, but one of NO's quirks is the stamped steel low-profile upper handguard and what appears to be a bayonet lug underneath.

No personal pics yet, but here's one from m1carbinesinc[dot]com:

Range report to follow when I have time.

Trick little gun. I've never shot one of those. Looks to be fun to play with.

That does seem to be going around! Nice little carbine- I love the M1 Carbine, it is just fun to shoot.

BP- I can bring one to the next Central TX shoot if either of us can make it.

Congrats on the .30 M-1 Carbine. Fun little shooters!

Check your gas piston. I have to send my GM off to get a new barrel installed. The housing cracked. This ain't mine, but is what happened to me. They sell a GI wrench (I now have) to tighten the Castle Nut that holds the piston it in place. Make sure the nut is tight and staked and the gas piston moves freely to and fro. I didn't notice and it cost me dearly. All original Inland/GM will have a mismatched barrel.

In fact, you can download a GI Tech Manual for free on the M-1 Carbine. Shows operator/direct support/depot maintenance instructions.

Like shooting a 22. With the price of ammo 30 carbine is a must load cartridge.
Just look at the flowers Lizzie, just look at the flowers.
