357 Mag Load for Black Bear
I will be hunting fall bear in CO, will be passing thru som choke cherries and brush thats as tall as I am moving thru a ridge one side from the other. I have encounter a bear, they are not aggressive ( been here before) but given a shot at a broadside bear 25yards or less what round would you reccomend for my 357, 686, 7 shot, Mountain gun?? Again this is 25 yards or less, non disturbed bear??
HSM Bear Ammunition 357 Magnum 180 Grain Round Nose Flat Point Gas Check Box of 50
The point of it being that if you have a lot of mass, velocity becomes somewhat less critical to achieving adequate penetration. 180 grains is about as big as you are going to be able to find in a factory load - the reason being that some manufacturers barrels aren't able to stabilize something that heavy.
180 grain semi-wadcutters at .357 velocities would be my choice for such activities.

Cor Bon makes/made a 200gr. Hard Cast load but I think 180gr. is the more practical upper limit in weight.
Did you end up with one hole or two? Please describe your shots and yardage. Thanks in advance.
Or take someone who doesn't run as fast as you. Preferably someone ya don't like. :silly:
The deer was shot through the top of the shoulders at 60 yards, the bullet exited.
The hog was shot a little far back at around 20 yards, I don't know if it exited because I didn't check at the time for a second hole.
