Louisiana State University AgCenter scientists say that the new process could be the key to preserving the eons-old genetic material of a variety of animals actively hunted in the wild – animals that would otherwise be lost.
Besides, they need to start the lineage somewhere. But in the end it will pay off with better genetics throughout the herd.

Jeremy, if you come down to South Texas you will find the State's biggest deer. South Texas deer run 50-150 pounds heavier than whitetail anywhere else in the state. The protien is concentrated more in the plants because of less moisture and there are native plants that only grow there that are very high in protien, so South Texas Whitetails are our biggest.
Also, the King Ranch has stocked all kinds of really large exotic species such as Nilgai and Eland. Then think about Africa. It's even hotter there. I think it's more what they get used to.
One more thing, if there isn't enough protiene in the plant life in Louisiana, they won't grow as big as they did up north regardless of genes. They may be superior to the native deer, but not the ones from where they came from.
