Guy's selling a fully engraved Regent 1911 on Gunbroker. Buy now price is $2,100. Turkish-made pistol, he thinks it might be hand assembled.

Same pistol without the engraving and rubber Hogue grips has a buy now price of $480.

He's also got a fully-engraved H&R 925 Defender in .38 S&W for a buy now price of $995.

Others on Gunbroker have a buy now price of $350 and one has a starting bid of $185.

Does full engraving of a 1911 really add $1,600? Is it really $645 t fully engrave a Harrington and Richardson Defender?
Meh.

I wonder how much extra the boogered-up, misaligned grip screw slots add? The term "lipstick on a pig" comes to mind! The engraving isn't all that great, there's just lots of it!

imo, it would depend on the engraver.

at one of the LGS last year an old world engraver was displaying his skills. i stopped to chat and admire his craftsmanship since its something you dont see alot of anymore. he asked why people didnt care or didnt show any interest in it. all i could say is that i didnt think most Americans could appreciate the work and more important couldnt AFFORD it.

How much does it cost? Well...it kinda depends...I can take an electric engraver to your 1911, get artistic, and I won't charge you a dime :roll2:

For engraving to have any worth, it must be accomplished on something of worth to begin with and depending on the skill of the engraver and the quality of his work it can cost thousands. While, at first glance, the engraving isn't horrible, it's certainly not the work of a master, but considering the firearms involved would amount to practice pieces for a serious engraver....

    ^THIS^

Why the heck anyone would spend $$$$ to fully engrave a <$500 gun (CDNN Sports has the R100 for $349) is beyond me; kinda like having Michelangelo do the paintjob on your '84 Yugo... :tooth:

:that: He's getting pretty good at engraving, but is still using cheap guns because he is still learning/ making mistakes (particularly in front of the trigger guard on the 1911). A fully engraved (quality made) 1911 by a master engraver would be over $5000.......

There used to be an old guy that set up at the local gun shows. You could get a double shotgun from him for $2500........ if you provided the shotgun!

I appreciate the craftsmanship, but when the price of said work pushes a $ 700 - $1,000 (base gun ) a work gun, not just a safe Queen, into the rarefied atmosphere of (cost of engraving ) $1,000 - $ 5,000, depending on grade and coverage, I just cant afford it anymore......

Those were interesting guns and make nice BBQ guns or something to wear in a holster at the shoot and not shoot it.

I don't care for engraving, myself I think it's tacky.

Well, the bottom line is you have a $400 gun. I also agree this is a practice gun. The engraving isn't all that good.
