Your Favorite Hunting Load

So what can I say? I have been reluctant to tell this on the forum but I have shot enough to be reasonably sure of my findings and I feel safe shooting this load. Maybe I could push this one up too, but when I began all this my goals were much lower than what I have achieved. So why push it? Both rifle's are giving me better performance than I wanted and I'm more than satisfied. I feel either of these rifles is capable of killing anything around here and probably anything in the lower 48.

Am I crazy, hallucinating, or are these components really an example of modern ballistic's technology improvements?

You're in .25-06 territory, velocity-wise, with a case slightly over half its capacity. Like Paul says, I'd want to have a LOT of distance between me and anyone shooting a load like that! There's a bunch of good reasons they don't call that round a ".250-3000" anymore. It can't reach 3000 FPS safely. It was overpressured when it was first developed, and 75 years of load tinkering haven't repealed any of the laws of physics!

    He's running a 26" barrel.

Edited to add: I've looked at Alliant Technologies, and they don't list Reloader 17 for the .250 Savage. I've always been cautioned that if a company doesn't list their powder in a chambering, there might be a reason for that.
    Meh.

That's what I was thinking. I remember when I was loading 110 gr Accubonds for my 25-06, it took a MAJOR dose of Retumbo or 4350 to get them to 3100 fps. 49 grains or so IIRC.

    Livin'on the wild side!

Including the guy pulling the trigger....You're loading little pipe bombs for your rifle...Seriously guys...this data is so far out there that I can't in clear conscience leave it out there for public consumption...somebody might try it...

Sorry...I've removed most all of the particulars from this thread...continue to discuss if you will, but leave the details out please...

    Thanks
