Media consolidation and you
I found this shocking.

But I have no doubt that most of the replies to this will still consist of some variation of "OMGWTFBBQregulationisevil!!!!!!11!!one"

Money is not speech, corporations are not people, and wealth does not trickle down.

How to fix this: Turn the radio off and use your CD player or other recorded music that YOU choose. If you continue to be "shocked" at such stuff, your tolerance level is pretty low.
Not surprised at all, it's been that way pretty much my entire life. They say some folks are paranoid, or seeing conspiracies everywhere. With global info consolidation such as this, damn right I see conspiracies!
You don't get out much do you?
Nice job with the assumptions. You know what that does. Well, not so much out of me, in this case, but definitely out of the two of you. Try actually reading the article instead of indulging knee-jerk reactions based on the URL. Kthx.
As for the overwhelming tide of inexplicable indifference from the other five of you, this is a prime example of conservative doublethink: you're terrified of delegating any authority at all to a public, publicly accountable institution, yet you seem to have no qualms whatsoever about private organizations, accountable to no one, amassing previously unthinkable amounts of power. Six companies pick and choose virtually everything that you see and hear in every medium, including this one. The fact that most of you don't seem to think that merits even a remark boggles my mind.
Money is not speech, corporations are not people, and wealth does not trickle down.
Good grief Charlie Brown.
OR...it could just be that we are just tired of indulging lazy liberal/progressive/socialist trolls who post up links to crap web sites instead of just saying what's on their minds.
Good lord, man, are you being deliberately obtuse? The heads of those six companies don't need to be in collusion with each other in order to do real harm. One giant media conglomerate is much like another; they have similar natures and similar interests. How likely do you think it is that anything running counter to those interests will make it to air if all the airtime is under the control of one conglomerate or another? Pretty effing unlikely. Truly independent journalism is already nearly extinct, and ongoing consolidation is not the way to bring it back. So if you're fine with the idea of only seeing, hearing, and reading what 232 executives decide you need to see, hear, or read, then go ahead. Call me a crazy conspiracy theorist and go back to your 24-hour feed of whatever advances the corporations' interests and to hell with the public interest.
I want to go back to when the FCC actually had teeth, and was empowered specifically to stop things like this. I want more competition and limits on how much of the market any given company can occupy. I want a government that acknowledges that there is such a thing as sane and necessary regulation, and that there is such a thing as capitalism run amok, and that not everything giant corporations do is automatically to the public good. I feel really weird wanting something I generally associate with conservatives, i.e. to turn the clock back, but that's what America needs. Reckless deregulation is hurting America and Americans.
Yes, because, obviously, providing information is the work of a troll. How could I have been so foolish. I will go now and construct a shrine to Rupert Murdoch in order to atone for my sins against our great and merciful corporate overlords. :bang:
Money is not speech, corporations are not people, and wealth does not trickle down.
I'm for anything that will keep you too busy to troll through here.
