This story explains very well the chaos of a midnight breakin.
In reply to Xerxes' demand to lay down his weapons, Leonidas replied;

    the woman in this story sounds like my wife.
    She insists on locks on all triggers.
    I keep them on everything but my XD. That gun sits by my bed with a full magazine beside it.
    In the morning I lock both up in a safe. Getting my ccw permit next month and after that only the extra ammo will be locked up and the XD will come with me everywhere.

    Reading stories like this always make me reconsider our basic home defense plan. This would be terrifying.

    Indeed. I carry just about 24/7. Can't carry while at work, but I keep one within reach when sleeping, and carry *everywhere* else that is legal, which is dang near everywhere.
