What happens in Vegas.... this October (vacation)

Getting a good bonus and wife wants a vacation (without kids). We already put in for October to drive to Maine, but she may not have enough days left for a whole week. So, we want to do a 2/3night stay in VEGAS! (sigh, I hate to fly.)

Who's done it? Tips?? What to see (on a budget)??? We aren't gamblers, so we just want to see some sights and a show or two (NOT Wayne Newton!)...

I imagine a package deal will be best. Don't want a room at the BedBug Inn though. Thinking we won't get a rental car, so want to be close to the major stuff, or a short cab ride away.

Joe, MOST of the casinos have "specials" during the week (Most I've seen are Sun through Thur) so if you can make your trip during that part of the week you can PROBABLY stay at a NICE casino for the price of a budget hotel around your parts (WELL under $100/night and some I remember seeing were $50 or less per night) This was at places you've heard of. Not Ceasar's but places like Flamingo, Bally's, Rio all have packages from Mon 10/1 through Thur 10/4 for ~$100/ night

edited to add: Here's a link to some of the packages for 3 nights (10/1-10/4)

edited again to add: it seems to default to a 5 night stay, but you can change the dates on the upper left side

We go once a year. I would agree about staying on the strip you can find deals. We like to stay at the Orleans its off the strip but just a little and they have a shuttle that takes you to the strip once every 15min.

Ride the bus have Luis (he's the man!) snag you a bus pass from off the strip then just ride the bus up and down the whole strip. It's cheap, clean, and fast best way to travel the strip. If your going to leave the strip then the bus won't work but like I said for the strip no better way.

We like the Rio buffet largest buffet in Vegas and dang good to. And for a show Blue Man Group get tickets at the tix4tonight and save a little awesome show and not to spendy.

If you like Antique Cars, they are always on display at the Imperial Palace Casino.

I'd really like to plan another trip to Vegas. So much fun.

I'd say for sight seeing, tourist kind of stuff, staying on the strip is a must. I personally preferr to stay on Freemont. Much slower pace and relaxed atmosphere. That's just my style. I'm not into shows, lots of people and all that. I do gamble though, so I stay busy. Poker and blackjack. I've only stayed at the 4 Queens. Commuting back and forth from Freemont to the strip get's a little expensive. We take cabs from Freemont to one end of the strip and used the monorail to get around from there.

The buffet at the Rio is pretty awesome. That's a must for those of us that like to eat. The water show at the Bellagio is pretty cool to check out, too. The women went to see the blue men while the guys went to play poker last time we went. They said it was pretty cool.

Two shows you might enjoy are: Penn & Teller, and one of the Cirque du Soleil productions. CS has several, including a R-rated show. We saw P&T a few years ago and it was fun.

If you do gamble, of course avoid the slots or craps. If you play conservatively you can enjoy blackjack, and naturally, poker at a somewhat low stakes table. As Maverick said, "When I play poker, it's not gambling".

Funny, wife and I went to NOLA this spring too, we were NOT impressed. Best thing we did was an airboat swamp tour in Houma

Flight is booked, three nights at The Signature at MGM. Best deal for an 4+ star. No casino, and no smoking. Hopefully be a little quieter than a strip resort... ??

Had to talk wife down from the Bellagio........ $$$ :yikes:
