Need information on lever action rifle
I need help in finding information about a lever action rifle in .30-30 caliber. The rifle held a total of 3 rounds, one in the chamber and two in the magazine. It was designed to be carried by a rider on horseback. I am not sure if it was Winchester or Marlin who made the gun. There was an article about it, in one of the gun magazines, but I don't remeber which one, what month or year. I would be greatful for any information or help in finding out about this rifle. Please forgive if this is posted twice, and having problems with computer.

You're describing a half-tube magazine, which was made by both Marlin and Winchester, IIRC. More info would help in figuring out exactly which model it might have been. Here's a link with some photos that might help:

You are mistaken on barrel length.

many moons ago, you could special order whatever you wanted and could afford from winchester. that included what is now known as SBRs. back then SBRs were like FAs, okay to own and buy w/o any paperwork.
iirc, some were made for some prisons in Mexico. from time to time, you will see them f/s or at auction houses with letters. also, most of them look like they were rode hard and put up wet due to they were utility guns and were treated as such.
