Question for the old folks (or those brave enough to answer)

So I just got a partial denture. If that didn't make me feel old enough, feeling the damned thing move in my mouth every time I shoot my shotgun just plain sucks.
Any tips for old geizers like me.
Should I go with some fixodent, or just take 'em out when I shoot?
Can the recoil rattling them around in my mouth damage them?

I fit in the old geezer catagory but can't help you on the partial, still lucky enought to have all my originals. I say go get implants!

Probably the next step.
I had some messed up teeth due to a car accident for a long time.
$2500 was a lot cheaper than $12,000 which is what the implants are gonna cost me.

In have no personal experience, however, Mom would take them out when they bothered her.

Problem was that sometime during eating in a resturant there would be some dentures
laying on the table. :yikes:

I still have mine although they need some work.
But I'd rather spend my money on guns & ammo
I'd use either super glue or duct tape to hold them in place.

2500$ is pretty pricey for a partial-did it have any special attachments? You should go back and have them tightened so they don't move-don't adjust the clamps yourself-too easy to break

I know what you mean. The cost of some things is flat ridiculous. But then I don't think I could stand having that plate moving around in my mouth everytime I went to do something. Some people down here go across the border into Mexico and get expensive dental work done much cheaper. However, right now I won't set foot on that bridge across the Rio Grand. There's a lot of violence over there.

However, for shooting, take em out and gum it, LOL!!!

I've got a full upper, and I use Fixodent Free; however, I don't apply 3 tiny strips like is shown on the tube, I run a continuous thin strip from back to front on both sides and overlap both strips for about an inch in the center, double thick like.

Been doing that for years, and suffice it to say there are times when I've tried to take it out and nearly pulled my gums off with it! :tooth:

Be careful, if them teef go flyin' outta your mouth when ya go bang, people will accuse you of shooting yer mouth off! :jester::guns:

To answer your question, at least partially, saxd, read down to what "snake" says.

We can cuss and rant and raise hell all we want to about the danged Mexicans, but if you want excellent dental care equal to the best you get here Stateside, AND AT A FRACTION OF THE COST get in your car and drive down to one of the border towns that specialize in "Yankee Dental Care". Matamoros, the Mexican side of Brownsville, Texas, for example. Or Progreso just up the Valley 30 or so miles across from Weslaco, Texas. Charter bussess run in a steady stream from big mid-western cities such as the "Twin Cities", Minn. bringing old worn out men and women for dental work.

Here is a personal example: Several years ago I needed work involving bridges, and my local dentist (also a friend) gave me an estimate of $9,000. to $9,600. depending..... A physician (friend of my wife's family) in Matamoros suggested a dentist friend of his there. I went, had the work done, and paid $1,430. Excellent work, never a problem!

FLASH....just checked with my wife to make sure that I was correct and on tract with what I am saying: She suggests staying out of Matamoros due to the Cartel shakedowns at dental/medical facilities, but rather go to Progreso which isn't affected by the Cartel at least yet.....!

It required a little more work. I shaped a steering wheel to the shape of my jaw. I chipped two lower and one upper tooth and fractured a few teeth below the gum line. Believe it or not I lived with these gnarly looking teeth for 20 years like this til finally one of the teeth that was fractured broke off below the gum line but above the root, and I decided I better do something. If I would have been put to sleep while they cut
through my gums to dig out roots and bone particles I would have paid much more.

I think I might take a road trip. Thanks for the info! I would love implants and if I can get 8 for a decent price it would be worth it.

Get some of the powdered stuff. I had a denture, used it with the temp denture and literally had to pry it out of my mouth. And it wasn't easy! It ain't going anywhere. A partial should wrap around your teeth in some way, or is it one that's free floating? Now, the proper fit and it doesn't move or rattle around.

Yes, Rich knows this as well as I do. It is the greatest bargain on the planet. I also agree with him that these two border towns are as far as you need go. And you will be a lot safer there. My son goes across to Matamoris since he lives on South Padre.

My grandmother had a full set and also tended to drift off to sleep quite often. Whenever she yawned, we were treated to the spectacle of dentures coming loose and being reseated.

Implants, magic glue, take your pick. Do whatever it takes to keep them in place - think of the children!

LoL... It's just my top and bottom front four teeth (the ones that hit.the steering wheel)
I got wire brackets that wrap around my back teeth. 99.9% of the time they are pretty darn secure, sneezes and all. Honestly even .45.out of a subcompact doesn't rattle them. Shotguns... Thats another story.
