Question for Six-Gun

...Or anyone else who uses Sierra 240gr JHC for deer hunting.

About 6 months ago, maybe longer, you were waxing poetic on a post about the accuracy you have gotten with Sierra's JHC's and were planning on using them on game. Have you had a chance to see how they perform yet out of a handgun once the bullet meets meat? I'm working a load up with them for hunting this year, and so far they seem alot softer than Hornady's XTP's when both are pushed to around 1350-1400 ft/sec.

I was wondering how they behaved when they hit bone.

Thanks for any insight you can give!

Not yet, but it's getting packed for my upcoming mule deer hunt. To be fair, it's going to be a slim chance I get to use it since it's a backup/opportunity gun alongside the .243 Tikka I am using, and mule deer isn't exactly what one would call "close range" hunting in many, if not most, cases. But, if I don't get a chance to try it on meat this year, it will be coming out for whitetail next year. Sorry I can't give you a bette report than that yet. With any luck, I'll have a muley at 100 yards or less and at that distance, I am 100% confident in this load's accuracy. Terminal performance will be the question and hopefully I'll have you a good answer. Based on it's ability to blow clean through about 6 wet phonebooks, I know it will handle the soft tissue penetration, but as you said, bone is always the real test.
Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping to try it out this year on a Ky whitetail launched from a Super Redhawk (7 1/2") equipped with an Ultradot scope. I'll post results if successfull.

Please do. If you get a kill, see if you can get some pics of the terminal effects. I don't mind a little gore to get the picture of how thnings behaved when the bullet hit.
