Now, let's hope the local authorities don't try to charge the Mother for child endangerment since the child gained access to a loaded firearm.

"When I had the gun, I didn't think I was actually going to have to shoot somebody," the 6th grader recalled. "I think it's going to change me a whole lot, knowing that I can hold my head up high and nothing can hurt me anymore."

Unless some bed-wetter liberal prosecutor gets involved, there's not much likelihood of that happening in Oklahoma!

Hmmm. . .Breaks into a house known to be occupied and goes straight to the occupied closet rather than ransacking the house. Am I the only one thinking that "first degree burglary" was not what this troll had in mind?

Had the same thought. The ONLY problem I had with this (and a minor one it is) is that she fired through the door. Might seem minor in this context, but I cringe when I see/hear about somebody shooting through something...not verifying the target and all...She still gets an 'Attagirl' from me!

"At that point, that for the first time in her life, Kendra fired a gun."

This sentence defines the story, this should not have been the first time she ever fired a firearm.
I am glad it turned out well, however I feel firearms training should be first on the list.....

Great Story!! What strength from such a young child. I agree that shooting thru the door probably wasn't the best idea but the police and mother knew she had a gun and would identify themselves before entering the bedroom (I hope). Being a new dad myself at what age do you teach your children self defense with a handgun? I can remember my father taking me to the range and shooting clays with a 410 when I was probably eightish. I had a BB gun since I can remember, but I can't remember when I started shooting pistols? Dad always had them around and we ALL knew better than to touch them but I'm sure I was over the age of 12 before I shot anything of size?

I'd say that time would be when you feel they are ready to handle it, regardless of age. We tend to be a little too hung up on age in this country. Some of the 'general rule' things we come up with are ridiculous. For me, that age would have been a litle older than others (I had the tendency to have to learn the hard way :bang:) and for others, it might have been much younger. If the youngster is being left alone in the home for any amount of time, I'd say it would benefit all concerned to have him/her well versed in what needs to be done during many circumstances, not just intruders.

I'm not sure of the time line, but the 911 operator said an officer was enroute, glad it wasn't the officer on the other side of the door!

The officer would, or should have been, announcing himself knowing there was an armed minor occupant in the house. Additionally, the dispatcher would have told the girl that police were on the scene and coming in the house.

As an chair after-the-fact specialist, I have to consent with CGG on this not confirming the focus on could have led to the mom getting taken or losing the suppose resulting in other negative results.

Probably because he cut out part of 22x9's response to make his own...
As an armchair after-the-fact analyst, I have to agree with CGG on this not verifying the target could have led to the mother getting shot or missing the suspect causing other unwanted effects.
