Watch where you point that thing!

Another funny day at the range today.....young couple in town on their way up to the mountains.....they were renting some pistols to shoot. Well the "better-half" was handling an unloaded pistol from the counter....when she started swinging it around unconsciously (pointed aim.....not waving it around)......the funny part was how I and everyone else there kinda instinctively moved outa the way of the muzzle until her boyfriend grabbed the pistol and pulled it down off level....she had this "oops, I'm sorry" look....which we all took in stride....she got the hint real quick...good on her part! However I had to throw 2 cents in..."hey we know it's unloaded....but treat every firearm like it WAS loaded....just watch where you point that thing....K!?"

Ended up on the lane next to them....they were shooting 9mm and when they heard the 10mm going off next to them...boyfriend got interested, so I let him a swing on the G-20.....you should've seen his eyes after that.....big as saucers they were! LMAO!

Had the same thing happen with a wet behind the ears rookie Police Officer, he had a riot gun (shotgun) on his shoulder and was sweeping everyone, I got peeved and when he was in the correct position, I relieved him of the shotgun and relieved him of duty all in one fell swoop, reprimanded him (entry in personnel record) and sent him back for re-certification.

    Edited to add:

This is why I cringe when people suggest renting guns to people with little to no training & experience with firearms rather than recommend a good training course.

That's why I liked my range down in NC. They weren't range Nazis. But if you were dangerous you were gone. It didn't matter if you'd been there to rent a gun once or a thousand times. You got a brief, and were expected to follow the rules.

I saw several guys escorted out and asked not to return.

    I miss that place.

Yep. A gun pointing at you will get your attention.

When I was a range safety officer in a civilian range, I would chat with new people and feel them out before letting them use a firing point, it has nothing whatsoever about being a "Range Nazi" and everything do do with range safety and peoples lives !

99 percent of the shooters were safety minded, the other small percentage got trained by myself rather than getting rid of them and making them someone else's problem, Instead of throwing them out, I helped them become safe shooters.

And BTW, I had to rebuild the automatic target equipment many times because slob shooters would blast the equipment.

BluCor's real attentive.....cameras on every lane....not range Nazis to myself once I flipped out the DD-214 (they've been REAL cool since), but I have been notified before of no kneeling shots (was benching a .22 pistol for ammo accuracy). Their website is full of fluff (owned by Navy Seals!.....yeah, that and a buck fifty gets you a cup of coffee!)....but it's nice having a metro area indoor 100 yrd rifle range.....need to get a membership to preclude the bumping....but I don't mind waiting and they seem to like me.....I get in and out w/o wasting time.

The guys upstairs in the retail room are down to earth.....I brought my AR in and went over the build details....it's fun discussion....YMH VS Daniel Defense VS CMT VS DPMS....blah blah blah....Rock River this, Magpul that....you know what I'm sayin' Zee.....AR-talk. w/o the ninja flair.

Em.....gotta say I've been lucky to have never seen anyone pulled off the range yet.

Mentioned here some time ago very similar scenario but in my case the gun had just been loaded with Hornady Critical Defense and the gun was pointed at me by the wife of the new purchaser, only feet away from my belly, finger on trigger...

Perhaps she wanted to test the ammo on a live subject.

Perhaps some time in a jail cell would help bring people like that to their senses.

Well she should test it on her husband, he was closer and had to wrestle to get the damned gun off her hands!
