Need some screws!!

Finally had time to get some range time in, took my CZ 550, 6.8 WIN. stock rifle, 2.5 x 10 x 40mm Burris posi-loc. In colorado it would put 3 Hornady 140gr. superproformance into 5/8-3/4" , now in Florida the stock has swelled, bbl. hard contact with the stock, it puts 3 into 3 1/2 - 4". It's time to steel and piller bed it.

The problem is I cant find any 6 mm - 75 screws, tried Brownells, Midway, etc etc. Only ones I found were from J&P Custom Products and they want $25.00 for 2 which is a little much. I dont have access to a lathe or a die, so I cant make them. I need HELP.

    What are the screws for?? Guard screws, or stockmakers hand screws to hold the action in place while you glass bed?? 6mmx75TPI?? That's a fine thread!!

    Brownells has 6mm-100 called thier tech line they dont have the -75.
    Just plain screws that i can center the pillers when I bed it

    Shoot me a snail mail address by PM- - - - -I'll make some for you. Do you want 'em with heads, or just screwdriver slots in the end of the shank? How long do they need to be?

    Edit: Victor Machinery Supply has a 6X.75 MM adjustable die in stock. A regular 1/4" bolt can be rethreaded by cutting the existing thread off and filing the smooth shank down to 6MM in a drill press, then threading it for a lot less than buying somebody's specialty bolt.

    Jeez! You think Harbor Freight's going to have them in with their mixed assortment pack of galvanized fender washers? Oddball thread pitch for a less-than-mainstream action and J&P is considerate enough to set up the mills to have them already turned out for you. Just pay the twenty five bucks and be thankful we've still got some people in this country that can actually make things!

    Bigslug, Harbor freight has 6 x 100 no 75, J&P is not making them, there a stock item, I also tried bicycle shops, they have them but all too short.

    we have a chain of hardware stores called "true value hardware" and they carry metric hardware.

    btw, you dont say what type of metric screw you want.

    we use mostly SS SHCS at work but we also have some BH and FHs but they are all socket types.

    if nothing happens, pm me. i will be @ work o dark early tomorrow am so i can grab a couple and send them out later this week if you .

    That particular thread pitch is extremely unlikely to be stocked at any hardware store. It's the metric equivalent to the US fractional thread "National Extra Fine". That's also the reason you can't drop by the hardware store and get scope mount screws- - - -they're NEF thread also, either 6-48 or 8-40. NF threads are 6-32 and 8-32, which is the finest thread any standard hardware store will carry. I just ordered some replacement taps for my scope mount kit- - - -the 6-48 tap cost $9.00. and the 8-40 tap was $11.50. There's a reason the local bolt and nut store doesn't stock them- - - -too expensive, and unless there's a whole herd of gunsmiths in the neighborhood, they'd never sell one!

    Teach, Jerry havnt found my taps or dies yet, did find some solid carbide drills # 40, 30, 21, there all brand new, yours if you want them, call me anytime and I'll send them to you.

    Sounds like a winner- - - - -I can always use a few more drills! When I was making the .257 Scooter reloading dies from .204's, I used a solid carbide drill and a precision reamer in the lathe tailstock to open up the .204 resizing die to .25 and switched to a .257 expander shank. Worked like a champ!
