  Bicycle riding is one of the few times that crossdraw works better for me for primary carry, covered by a long t-shirt. Since most of the time you are hunched over, a strongside prints badly for me.
  
  I think a .44 or 45 N-frame carried crossdraw will work on a bike.
  
  Also, the 5.11 holster shirts have worked well, if the weather is cool. The neoprene pad under the gun gets hot as heck in the heat:

  Not a fan of carrying it on the bike. If someone, or some dog knocks you off the bike, you are separated from your gun. Carry on body.

  I carry on the bike. Mine is an upright rectangular bag facing up on top of the top tube-all the forward.
  Better than not carrying at all.
  Only other option for me is for it to be in one of the pockets of my cycling jersey (3 pockets-Two large on the sides and a smaller one in the middle) resting around waist line of your back.

  Used to be the largest frame a Smith and Wesson revolver was offered in (now surpassed by the X-frame of the .500 and .460 Magnums.) N-frames are what the 6-shot .45, .41, and .44s are built on, along with some .357s. Dirty Harry's .44 Magnum was an N-frame.

  Fanny packs are common with cyclists - you won't stand out. I carry an XD45 Compact plus some gear in mine.

  I carry a full size SA XDM-45 4.5" with 13+1 rds of .45acp in a Tucker Secret Strike. That's all the time including on the bike with a black T under and fishing shirt over. Not very high style but still effective. Only drawback to me is that I can't wear padded cycling shorts, since they don't have belt loops.
  
  The few cases I have read of attacks on cyclists have all started with the rider being knocked off the bike. If your gun is on the bike, it is no help.
