  In 1992 I was my early 20's and had just started working at the LGS. It was 1993 when the FBI finalized the framework for the wound ballistic testing protocols and that was when all the ammo makers started designing rounds to match. I wasn't really aware of this at the time - only that a lot of wazoo new hollowpoints were hitting the market. My similar age group co-workers and I all started collecting our milk jugs, and I put together a collection of all the happy little mushrooms that resulted so that we might determine the best round to use.
  
  Knowing what I now know, I don't really care much as long as it fires, but if force to state a preference, am actually leaning more towards the old solid lead Keith-ish profiles. But as I recall, the Starfire .45's opened BIG. I know they were wider than the FINAL diameter of the Black Talons, but can't remember if they were wider than the Talons would have been at full spread.

  Back when they first hit the market, Starfires got the nickname "flying ash tray". The name is still pretty appropriate. A counterman at a LGS I used to frequent pretty regularly had a starfish-shaped scar in the web of his left hand between the thumb and forefinger from a ND with a short-barreled 9MM loaded with Starfire ammo. The scar was almost the diameter of a nickel.

  The first Starline ammo I had was .357, that seemed to shoot well.
  
  I got this to shoot jugs anyway.
  
  But, the inside of the HP looks different that I remember seeing before.

  Ned, I'm not familiar, is this stuff hard to find or just budget priced? The Hornady Critical Defense stuff I use for carry is dang pricey.

  This is my understanding as well. I had some at one point in time and they hollowpoints were HUGE.

  It is not a steady offering at the LGS's and was about the same price as Hornady ammo, the other box I bought was Hornady 10mm 155gr XTP
  and it was a dollar more.

  I still have some in .357 mag. Seems like nice stuff, but I haven't fired any. I have been saving it for a special occasion. :tooth:

  Shot 3 jugs today with the subject ammo, seems to expand fast; but, there is better HP ammo out there.
