  The muzzle blast and cylinder gap flash from a blank would have probably taken care of that "gene pool" thing! The bullet was just extra insurance!

  That story sounds suspect. The Freedom Arms pistol has a transfer bar safety. The trigger has to be pulled back far enough for the transfer bar to drop and allow the hammer to contact the firing pin. You can't just trip the trigger/sear engagement and have it fire. The trigger has to be pulled back far enough to disengage the transfer bar safety.
  
  Breamfisher, some of the newer SAA type revolvers have a safety installed on the left side recoil shield that blocks the hammer. They work if engaged, but look as crappy as the safety on lever action rifles. :vomit:

  Had to have occurred while slipping it into his pants. Trigger hooked on his belt or some such nonsense. The flame cutting into his abdomen had to hurt like the dickens...for a while.

  On my Rugers the transfer bar drops down out of the way when the gun is cocked. Isn't the transfer bar there to protect from a discharge if the gun is dropped.

  I thought the transfer bar transferred the blow from the hammer to the firing pin, as the hammer can't otherwise directly contact the firing pin? IIRC, my Ruger GP-100 moved the tranfer bar UP when cocked. On the other hand, the hammer block safety of my Smith and Wessons drop DOWN upon cocking to allow the hammer to go all the way forward and the firing pin strikes the primer.

  We need to understand that the purpose of this article and the prominent play that other gun related accidents have gotten is to show that no one is safe around firearms and they must be banned.
  We realize that stupid is as stupid does. That bad things happen to people and sometimes even to good people. But a liberal journalist is thinking, "We must save these people from themselves." As if we are all children playing with matches.
  Keep track. There will be an increase in these unless they are absolutely squashed with sarcasm and derision from the very first.
