Getting Ready
I only have 12 days left before I fly to the Philippines and deer season here starts on November 2nd, and I won't be home until Oct. 28th, so I figured I'd better get all preparations out of the way so I wouldn't be in a hurry when I get home, as I will only have five days. I know I'll be jet lagged and won't feel like doing much for a few days, so I decided to make sure I have what guns I want to use sighted in before I leave. I took my 9.3x62 Ruger 77 , my 7 Rem. Mag. Savage 110, and my .Yugo Mauser sporter .257 AI. I already have my .270, my 30-06 and my 250 Savage ready.
I had already gotten my 9.3 sighted in but it fell off the shooting stands and hit the concrete at the range. I only had three rounds left and didn't get it where I wanted it. So I loaded up a bunch of bullets and got it back right on the money.
The .257 AI I had swapped to a lower set of rings, so I needed to shoot it in. Besides I wanted to fireform some brass.
The scope on the 7 mag was loose and turning in the mounts when I dropped it one day. Not a hard drop but it fell over on the scope when I opened the safe one day. So I tightened it up and shot it in also. I think I just forgot to tighten it good when I mounted the scope. Then it moved when I dropped it.
Anyway, I shot about 15 rounds through the 9.3 and got it where I wanted it. This time I rememebered to bring along the PAST recoil shield. This made the task pleasent. Before, it pounded me into submission.
I also shot about 15 rounds through the 7 mag, getting it dead on. It really shoots good and with the PAST Recoil Shield, it's a cat.
The .257 AI i didn't need the PAST Shield for. It's a natural pussycat. I got all three ready for opening day, and now I just need to go out and spray Hornet spray in the blind, fill the feeders, and install new batteries. Then I'll be set for opening day.
I'll do some more reloading, mainly for the .257, now that I have plenty of fireformed brass ready. I'm anxious because there's a couple of very nice bucks out there I saw last year. Also, I want to get the deer out of the way. The county our lease is in has an early doe season that lasts through the third weekend of the season. Then you have to have a special permit to shoot does. So I'll try and get all the deer killing out of the way before then except the spike. I usually see those later in the season anyway. Then I'll start shooting hogs and yotes also.

The trail is so distinctive I can follow it easily from the downwind side. Eventually I'll hang a stand somewhere and try to put my wife on a nice one. She's never killed a deer.
It's been a long hot Summer but the season is finally upon us!
Have a safe trip buddy, I've seen a few news articles of cranky Muslims over there, so keep your head down and your eye on your six.
I guess that 'getting ready' for deer hunting is superfluous over here seeing as how everyday is deer season............:rotflmao:
( My pack is always 'packed' and all I need to do is decide which rifle and which ammo to take..............)
Forgot to add: ............and decide whether or not to stick a suppressor on the end of the barrel...............or how many deer to take. :tooth:
As for deer, I dont have much time but I would love to fly from there to NZ and try out some of your fallow deer and red stag. And I really want to shoot some of those big ducks you have there. It's not too far from Manila to NZ. Maybe next time.
As for drinking the water, it's safe in the cities. But the locals in the villages have shallow wells and everybody has a septic tank. So you know how that goes. Sickest I ever been with diarhria I drank shallow well water at my MILs house. I stayed in the Banyo for days and ate a ton of immodium getting through that.
You can actually hunt a species of dangerous game on the island of Mindoro, not to be confused with Mindanao, in the south of the Philippines. I've never been to Mindoro, but I've flown over it a hundred times. It's the island just south of Luzon and just north of Panay. Panay is across the channel from Negros where my wife is from. They have buffalo similar to what they hunt in Austrailia on Mindoro. I have been to Mindanao and its' the second biggest island in the Philippines.
Alec, when you're as deaf as me, you want to hear that Bang! No suppression Please!

That's the problem right there Mike...........if I don't put a suppressor on and preserve what is left of my hearing I will be as deaf as you.

Ey? No I don't want to buy any light bulbs, I don't care what Watt they are......:jester:
