Why is the Midwest considered that still when it's in the central time zone? Where does the midwest end and the west begin....the Mississippi river?
God show's mercy on drunks and dumb animals.........two outa three ain't a bad score!
The west starts about in west texas and extends up through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana...
According to my edumacation....
The term of course was used many years ago and it's stuck, but it's invalid. I always say "central states".
I draw the line at the states with their Western borders at about 100 degrees W longitude: the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma back to Ohio is the "Midwest"; anything from Pennsylvania to the coast is "The East"; the Civil War boundaries save Texas denotes "The South"; and Texas is big enough to be confused.

Yeah......bad example. It's was the PC-ness I was trying to convey, my bad.
They can be central since that's their time zone. Would be too hard for meteorologist to say "just to the right of the middle".
You're a pineapple......on a stick.........:tooth: Y'all n Alaska can claim the Pacific time zone all to yourselves......the left coast will have to become a new time zone......western..........or just The Time Zone, since that's where all the freaky things happen.........:jester:
There is Texas, then all the rest.

And I've had many a coworker say "I ain't no afro-American........never been to Africa and don't want to..........and do you see me sporting an afro?. I'm an American and I'm black!"
Ok enough about races, this is about the layout of the country and terminology.
I prefer to be called Scandinavian American.
People in the world are either British or not British, simples.:tooth:
Greenwich is the time zone, all the rest are just made up to keep the locals content.:jester:
And you peeples/yankee's from Hawaii are northerners and easterners to us in Kiwi land.
Actually ojr, Bloodhound, Waipapa and I are the only true southerners on this forum.........Geographically speaking.

I'd rather have my sister work in a whorehouse than own another Taurus!
Realistically, I always feel better defining the "West" by life styles. TX, OK, CO, WY, MT and all the ones west of them feel "western" to me. However, the Flint Hills of Kansas feel western and eastern Colorado does not. So, now what?
We sure as heck aren't easterners. Or Yankees, as many southerners would have you believe.
We're about half southern, half western. At least the bottom half of Ohio is. Cleveland is pretty eastern.
Well we started to tell y'all to go sack yerselves in 1776.......but since we're a bunch of lazy Colonists.....all in good time.....bless your heart.........it took us a few years to get our dander up and finally show you we really meant it. We were kinda understaffed and ill equipped at the time.
We changed the British stigmatism for you and took it off your shoulders........Now you're either American.......or you hate Americans.......:tooth: You can thank us by buying a Big Mac for 10 pds British.......in the end, WE GOT YOU to be fat b-stards!! Hahahahahaa!
We gave you the starting line for the time zones for history's sake.........whatever you start, we finish it for you.......Bawhaahahaha!
In all fairness......you did give us the English Language......of which we've corrupted completely and made it harder to comprehend than Vietnamese Tonal Inflections.
This is the land of BASF..........we don't make it, we just make it better.........:rotflmao:
Almost forgot.........we created the Metric System which you use, and we don't since we still love our cousins from across the pond and prefer the English "Standard" system..........again.......Bwahahahaha!
Oh, and we can purchase petrol in Gallons for the same price you pay in a Liter........snicker!
We are hell bent on destroying the planet, and doing a mighty fine job of it I might say.........more tea?
That makes sense. Cleveland might as well be a suburb of New York. Youngstown, too. Completely different people, vibe there vs. the rest of the state. Lots of people forget that Appalachia starts in SE Ohio.
