the wrong target

Last thursday, a creep , cleverly disguised as a cab driver , saw an easy prey. After driving halfway to the victim's destination, the "cabby" pointed a gun at his passenger and demanded her cell phone and purse....

...But, the "easy prey" noticed the gun was a fake, bumped him in the head twice, and emptied a whole can of pepper spray in his face before escaping from the taxi...

...the following morning I bought my niece a new can of pepper spray to replace the empty one.

I hope she got his license number so uncle Antonio can give him an attitude adjustment!

Sadly, the answer is no. When my Niece escaped from the goblin's cab, she was feeling too the effect of using OC spray in a confined space, so her main concern was to reach a safe place. She sought refuge in a nearby Mart, where the clerks gave her assistance, but nobody thought on calling the cops.

About the Pepper spray, it was a small can of 10% OC, MACE brand, and it was really effective. In my Niece's own words "I looked like a Racoon....with a red mask around my eyes, and a red nose too..."

So it was more of a fog than a stream? I am surprised the guy could move at all if your niece was all balled up from the fogged car, should have been an easy arrest for the LEO's. Would your niece buy more of the same or go with more of a solid stream version?

I was amazed by the story when you told it to me last Friday. Fortunately she was quick enough to react and lucky enough to escape without harm. Many things could have gone wrong, like being a real gun or causing a crash when she sprayed her attacker, but anyway the risk of being hurt, kidnapped or raped (Not to mention murdered) was well worth her actions (Not an uncommon fate for young female victims over here).

Too bad the creep got away; in the other hand, even if cops would have caught him, he'll eventually end up free after the usual "fee" or due to our stupid "petty crime" laws and she would have been repeatedly exposed to the criminal and our horrendous bureaucracy if she would have pressed charges, not considering the money and time the system would have tried to pick from her.

Unfortunately for the future victims, next time this guy will be more aggressive and even try to get a real gun. Too bad the criminal wasn't an asthmatic!

Since the possibilities of using again a pepper spray in close quarters, where she could also be exposed to the fumes, is relatively high, I wouldn't go for something stronger. At least once she has felt the "sting" of the mace, she now knows what to expect if she ever (Hope not!) faces another crime situation.

Everyone I've ever seen shot more of a stream but a little of it get's atomized regardless. I've been exposed to mace and pepper spray on a few occasions from people in the same room or near me being hit with it and if you're within a few feet of someone getting sprayed outside, you'll feel the effects. If you're in the same room inside, you'll feel some of the effects. I was in a bar in Fort Worth many years ago where some drunk woman was kicked out and as she walked out, she sprayed her keychain pepper sprayer on the floor all the way to the door and it emptied out the bar.
