Bullet twist rate on packaging vs faster rates in barrels?

I bought some Hornady .308 155 gr Amax's, and when they arrived today they are marked 1:12 twist. My Savage is 1:10.

I assume they swill spin faster but is the "rating" marked on the package just a guideline?

It's the minimum twist needed. Which may or may not be true, so yes, it's a guideline.
