Move Over Ghost Pepper

There is a new record holder in town, the Carolina Reaper. Apparently this thing averages 1.5 million SHU's, and has peaked at 2.2 million. :yikes::yikes::yikes:

When we reach the point that "food" is causing immediate physical harm - in this case, temporarily burning the taste buds off your tongue - can we start to classify it as a toxin? Unless you're trying to weaponize it (i.e., pepper spray), where's the sense in pursuing higher SHU's? Oh wait! I'm sorry - "Marketing to idiots" is the answer I was looking for.:bang:

If the pepper you put on/in your food is so hot you can't taste the food, then you have issues. Sayin'. :tooth:

Because there will always be a niche market for the latest, greatest of pretty much anything. Can I handle one of those peppers??? HECK NO!! Would it be cool to grow and market the hottest pepper in the world? Absolutely!!

    A quote from the website:

    WARNING and we’re not kidding!

After touching or handling hot peppers always remember to wash your hands with a product containing acidity such as lime or lemon juice. Some of our peppers are smokin’ hot and if not properly handled will temporarily damage skin tissue. When sharing your hot peppers with others, please let them know to use with caution.

Temporarily damage soft skin tissue! It's not a toxin, it's a hazardous material!

That is just stupid. It would make a really effective stray animal deterrent, cut up peppers mix with water and put it all in an old style refillable water fire extinguisher.

Sure eating one raw would be foolish, but I have a bottle of hot sauce I doctored up that has 3 roasted ghost peppers in it. Sure is has some burn to it, but it is actually very tasty. Had a good bit of it on my dinner just a while ago. I would love to do the same with one of these!

That was funny to watch the Marine ear that on purpose. What a maroon!

Do you ship. I would love to try that. I like hot stuff but not to the point of pain.

I love hot and spicey, it wakes up all the other flavors. Unfortunately hot n spicey no longer likes me.

I watched that one the other day. No way I could do that. Now, I do plan on trying some of the sauces made from the pepper, but I will sparingly apply them to a large amount of food.

Mrs Renfero make a mass produced salsa. Ghost pepper salsa. Quite tasty, but it's not for the timid.
