New EDC rig

Picked up an M&P9 Shield today LNIB from a local shop, and a Bladetech IWB holster to carry with. I bought this gun to fill the EDC role that my fullsize M&P9 Pro Series has filled up to this point.

My criteria were pretty straightforward:

9mm or .45 ACP
Concealable IWB under just a t-shirt
Readily available accessories

The M&P fit the bill quite nicely, and this one came up at a price I felt was fair. My impressions so far are favorable, though it does shoot consistently 3" to the left from 5-10 yards (easily fixed). With the 7tds magazine I have to put my pinky under the grip, but I still find it comfortable. Good trigger, no hiccups so far, and most importantly I can conceal it to the casual observer with just a t-shirt, as demonstrated below.

Loaded with Hornady Critical Defense (115gr FTX), I think it will work nicely.

As a side note, my fullsize M&P9 now wears a Streamlight TLR-1 and serves as the "house gun."

Looks good man, I wish I'd had your good sense on accessories. I finally found an OWB holster for my Kahr. But I haven't bought it yet 'cause I'm not sure I'm gonna keep the pistol. Plus I don't like Kydex.

    Looks good, Matt.

As an aside, I'd either epoxy in place or (what I did) completely remove the spacer on the 8 round mag. It has a tendency to ride up the body of the magazine, fine at the range, but not really something you want to deal with if you NEED to reload the gun.

    That's my boy! Good choice.

Excellent choice. Seems like more and more holsters are becoming available too.

Nice! I like it. The Shield is pretty high on my "want" list, even though I'm a big Kahr fan. I think it lands somewhere betweeen the CW & PM series Kahrs, for the price of a CW.
I'll be interested to hear how the Bladetech works for you.

It fits the bill quite well for a general use IWB carry gun, which is what I want it for. Make no mistakes about it though, it is definitely NOT a pocket pistol (except for perhaps a larger coat pocket).

I took my Shield apart to wipe off the makers preservative. After reassembly I noticed that I can see a strip of light between the slide and the frame. Did I assemble incorrectly? Is this a fit and finish problem that I need to talk to my LGS about? I have had it about 3 days, haven't shot it yet, and won't until I get this figured out.

    Can you post pics?

On just about every polymer gun I've ever dealt with you can see light between the slide and frame, and the Shield is pretty full-proof as far as getting back together goes.....if you can freely rack the slide and the action works, I'm 99.9% sure that everything is fine.

However, if you didn't notice it before, and you are noticing it now, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I got my Shield in 9mm for Christmas and got to the range yesterday. WOW, I'm impressed. I've owned about every small 9mm out there (literally) and while the Shield won't win the smallest award, it is by far my favorite because of it's trigger and accuracy.

Dr. Your Shield is fine. I took mine out of the safe to double check and when backlit I can see light also. Only reason to take that gun back to the LGS is if your range is co-located. Enjoy your new puchase.

Eli: I will post pics just in case. Obviously in my case "fool proof" means proof that I am a fool. Thanks

My EDC right now is a M&P9 Shield in a Blade Tech IWB rig just like that you've got. In Florida our winter is mild with sparse days in the 40-50deg range, so my EDC has to hide under a t-shirt year 'round.

    Good selection.
