Thanks for grabbing all of those listings for me! I'm really loving the prospects. I have been looking all over the US for a place to buy, but what I may do is buy land in Ohio (since it's all but certain to be my next duty station) and if I end up settling permanently elsewhere, just selling it and moving on if it's not practical to keep if I'm moved again.
Accuracy: because white space between bullet holes drives me insane.
They used to not be available here until September 1st. That's when hunting and fishing licenses used to expire. But now they have a law where on the day you bought it it is good for a year from that date, no matter when you bought it . In other words if you bought it on October 30th, it will be good until October 30 the next year. I know this is true for fishing license, but not sure for hunting. However, with the old license that expired on September first, if you bought it on August 1st, it would only be valid for one month and I believe it would cost the same as if you bought it on September 2nd.
Also, with the license that is good until September 1rst, or rather through August 31st, the hunting and fishing was the same, but I'm not sure that year to year applies to hunting license also.
Daddy, what's an enabler?
Son that's somebody with nothing to do with his time but keep me in trouble with mom.

If you aren't worried about ever building on it (septic and well) I think you should be able to break $1500 an acre. There are some ridges down south where you can't hit water 500' down and not enough soil for a septic.

Good to note, jbp. I have to definitely consider that because a small cabin would be ideal for weekender stays, which anything in the 2+ hour range from the house would assuredly be best suited. That would require septic and water if I want the best convenience possible.

Unless you plan to keep it for a long time.......... a camper is cheaper than a septic and well

There are other ways for a hunting cabin..... outhouse with composting toilet.......
Good options! The key for me above all else is going to be getting some semblance of cabin out there and, the more we discuss it, keeping our Amish buddies in check (or out of the equation altogether). That tresspassing situation you guys described sounds like it would end very poorly if they showed up on my place on a day I plan to hunt. For their sake, I'd hope good running shoes are in line with their ways these days!

Check out Egypt Valley Wildlife Area. If you look at it on Google Maps you can see lots of strip ponds. I imagine the ones furthest from the roads see less fishermen. Good place to be in the spring with a light fly rod and some poppers.....
Another big area is the AEP ReCreation Area..... you need a permit but they are free

A note on this one^. I hunted for many years in Laurelville. Have good friends there. It's beautiful. Depressed and poor, yes. But beautiful. And wildlife galore!

Rent the house and barn to someone with horses and hunt the rest....... Like a live in security guard to run off trespassers
