    Damn lucky, I guess.

Hoe do you get the deer to stand still while you tape targets to them?
Reason I ask is I've been following this thread and I'm intrigued but apparently the bullets have to pass through paper to be effective on game.

I am a dedicated hand-loader. Sorry didn't realize this was more for "Factory" shooters.

It's not. You just have to realize that for ever member that views this thread there's probably 200 non-registered lurkers doing the same thing. So not everything I post is for the direct benefit of the participating members. I'd hate for some neophyte non-loading lurker to run out and buy a 6mm Rem based upon something I posted not realizing he's not going to be able to find any boolits for it.

Kind of a public service announcement, if you will.

No need for you to be curious. I'm just being a sarcastic jackass ( its a stretch, right) to those who even after multiple pictures of the damage done by the AMax bullets, and multiple success stories, and even Hornady themselves stating they were suitable for thin skinned game......they refuse to accept them as a "hunting bullet".

Right, I get all yhat, I was just playing along.

Bullcrap. Amax bullets are for paper targets, not animals.

Probably no surprise, but my 243 Win is a rear-grip XP-100.
It has taken some dogs at distance too, but has been resting recently, as it is a switch barrel XP (6x47 Lapua, 243 Win, 6.5-284 and 284 Win).

Count me among the .243 Winchester fans. My first center fire rifle was a model 700 BDL Remington, in .243, ( I still have it ). That rifle has harvested 36 whitetail deer, a couple of hogs, a 100 yard shot on a squirrel, and a truck load of ground hogs. I load 100 gtain Nosler Partitions for deer and hogs, over Hodgdon H-1000 powder, and Speer, 75 grain HP's over IMR 30-31 powder, for ground hogs, crows and other vermin. I have shot three shots, at 100 yards, with this rifle, that you could cover with a dime. For some reason, unbenonst to me, this caliber kills much better, and quicker, than it should, for such a small bullet. It leaves huge, gaping, exit wounds, and blood trails that a blind man could follow. I once shot an Osceola Turkey with it, but I don't recommend it for turkeys, because all I could save was half a breast and one leg, LOL.........Robin

Back in about 66 or 67 when they made rifles legal for turkeys here in Wy. I wrote Jack Oconnor about a "turkey" load for the 243. He wrote me back a short letter and suggested a light load of 3031. That load shot well in my rifle, but I never got to shoot a turkey with it, but I did kill a huge whitetail buck with that load. The only turkey I shot with the 243, the bullet went right up his spine and split him in two, like you was going to put him in a spit over a fire or such..
