Thus far, only 30-06 out of my Browning A Bolt.

At some point, though, I would like to add:

30-06 out of my new Garand
    10mm Auto
    44 mag
    .223
    maybe one with my 30-30
    8mm Mauser
    12 gauge

    Oh yeah, and 50 Beowulf

It's going to be a few years before I can get this list done, though.

30-30, 30-06, 270, and 243. Most with the 270 since it's better on deer then the others.

Why in the holy hell would you shoot a deer with a .458 Win mag? See if you can knock it into the next county?

In reality, a 458 Win mag is a fairly sensible deer round if you reload.

My truck goes over 100 miles and hour and can easily pull 12,000 pounds. That doesn't mean that I need to go 100 miles an hour every time I go to the grocery store. I may only need a moped to run up there to get a gallon of milk but I still use my truck. There is no rule stating that I have to use it to its full potential every time. Besides, I don't have a moped, I have a truck.

Loads in .458 Win mag for stuff other than cape buffalo...

I can load up stuff even gentler than they have listed.

Would you please enlighten us and explain the threshold that defines too much velocity to shoot a deer with? Perhaps what defines too much energy? I'd like an explanation of too much bullet diameter as well. Possibly case capacity of powder? Case length? Bullet weight?

At what point do I have "too much gun"?

What defines this and who defined it? Please........do tell.

Yeppers....the deer just does not care....The ones I shot with a .45-70 (also a .458) folded up and died just like the ones I shot with any of the others...

Which is fine as well. Like you said-- dead is dead. You can't get more deader. I am also trying to explain the point that there is a whole lot more versatility in those big cartridges than meets the eye.

Obviously overcompensating for a lack thereof……
Probably hunt quail with a 10 gauge, after all a quail can't ever be to dead.

You are correct about the meat loss. I lost some ribs............that I don't eat anyway. Ate both shoulders and backstraps. And tenderloins. What else would you like me to eat?

So, what am I undercompensating for when I shoot deer with a .223 Remington?

Oh, and would you please answer my question as to defining too much gun? I'd like to learn.
